I've putting it off since ds was born 13 weeks ago, but have had enough and have taken the plunge today. We have only a couple of Motherease one size and a couple of tots bots to try out for the moment, so we'll see which we like best and then buy the rest. But I'm soooo excited and pleased that I've finally got round to doing it. And even though the ME aren't that pretty, he looked so cute in them! So I've put on a ME one size, a fleece liner and a paper liner in case of poo, and a ME rikki wrap. Does that sound ok to you experts??

Leaks are around the legs. But that doesn't solve the leg wriggling problem. Are there any REALLY slim cloths that are any good?

Evansmummy, I had leaks with the ME too around the legs, despite them being a one size nappy I think they fit better as the baby gets older. So, might be worth putting it away and trying it later - I use mine in regular rotation now. The ME also comes down quite far on the thigh too.

Look at a hemp nappy say here or here (I like these) or even these

It took me a while to get sorted, it will happen, keep smiling!

My Bambino Mio wraps don't leak but have to be washed at 40 which is a pain as ds3 has explosive poo!

evansmummy, the really slim cloth nappy is the holy grail! With cloth, absorbency is provided by the material, so the more fabric the more absorbent. That's why unbleached Tots are so good!

Having said that, hemp is good and absorbent and quite slim. We had some Ella's House nappies, which were good, but dd had very skinny thighs and the "seal" was never as good as with our Tots.

Maisiemog · 20/03/2005 23:52

Hi Evansmummy,
I haven't tried many fitted nappies, until recently that is. When our baby was little (and I mean LITTLE) we had him in a mixture of disps and cotton bottoms newborn. We put in a fleecy liner and secured the nappy with a nappy nippa and it was pretty slim. The thing with cotton bottoms and bambino mios is they are not elasticated like fitted nappies, but on the other hand you can make them fit any baby size and shape, and they are pretty darn absorbant, because you are folding over three layers of fabric.
Something like that, or a terry or muslin might be better while your baby is only little. YOu can pick any of these up for a song on Ebay - like the same as ONE fitted nappy quite often.

Are you there Evansmummy? How are you getting on?

evansmummy · 22/03/2005 17:32

Not too bad thanks, chipmonkey. We're still wating on our trial pack from plush pants, plus I'm thinking of buying a bimble to try out. Otherwise, I'm not gonna use the MEOS for the moment co they're just too bulky and keep leaking. The only others I have at the mo are the tots bots, but I only have two, so am not using them very regularly yet. But this morning, lo had tots bots on for over 3 hours and had a dry botty afterwards, so I was super pleased!! I keep looking longingly at all the nappy websites, but keep telling myself it's not worth buying til I'm sure of the ones I want!

dd3 hasnt been near a disposable since sunday night/monday morning. makes her bottom very big , but feel so much more relaxed now she is wearing cloth. no leaks so far,

TrinaJ · 22/03/2005 19:18

We have the advantage of being provided ME sandy's and one size nappies by our local council. I don't use them over noght and am still finding it hard work to get used to using them, but so far have discovered the sandy's leak less, when used with Rikki wraps. Good to hear other people getting on ok with them, may prompt me to use them more!

MrsDoolittle · 24/03/2005 08:43

evanamummy - I had the same problem with the MEOS - I have 5 and they are completely redundant. 3 of them have only been washed once!!
Once I started with the totsbots and bumbles I never looked back.
It seems to me that it is not the absorbancy that is your problem, it is the fit of your nappy. Dd is nearly a year old and the MEOS still don't fit her!

Tissy · 24/03/2005 09:28

I had some Under the Nile nappies, which are very similar to MEOS, and could never get them to fit dd, and sold them on...Tots with nippas are the best! You get accustomed to the fat bum; now dd is potty trained, I still can't get used to the feel of her little bum in big girl pants!

evansmummy · 25/03/2005 05:40

Righ, tots bots goign very well now, the ME wraps with the poppers (rikki or airflow, i can't remember) are ok, but it's a shame they're so ugly. Any pretty ones out there? I'm waiting for an ella's house and a bimble to try out from kittykins, and my trial order from plush pants which has some tots bots nippas (mine are applix but you lot seem to prefer the nippas, so I'm gonna give it a go), nature babies and imse vimse, plus some different wraps. So we'll see which is best... Oh and what is a PUL wrap?

evansmummy - you've got loads to learn. Enjoy
Minkis
Cutie patooties
PUL - poly urethane (?) layer - breathable plastic layer for waterproofing nappies or wraps. Its the shiny surface inside your Motherease wraps
