I think my 3.8 yr old may have a water infection, what do you think?

He complained tonight that the end of his willy was hurting. He went for a wee and said it hurt (the end again). In his Pyjama pants there appeared to be a bit of pink - not sure if this was blood. He was really good and did another wee in a bowl which I think I will take to the Dr's tomorrow.

What do you think?

my son has a red (end) willy which is sore if he eats too many tomatoes (and his wee can be a bit reddish). during the summer, he would pick the toms off the plants in the garden and eat them there and then and if he ate around 6, thats when the acidity from the toms started to affect his willy.

have a think about what he ate before his willy started hurting and see if anything comes up?

if not, if no better, take him to the docs to be safe?

My DS1 had this when he was little and he didn't have a urine infection but an infection of the end of his willy called balinistis.

Cured by a course of anti-biotics but he got it again 2 weeks later and then it set in motion a whole train of events as they were concerned his foreskin was too tight and he was monitored for 18mths before we moved and slipped under the radar, somehow (they don't seem so concerned here). He hasn't had it since though so he should be alright.

It sounds extremely unpleasant and every time he had a wee he was nearly screaming in pain although after a few minutes it seemed to calm down.

I think (but don't know) that he would be more unwell, with a temperature and stomach ache, if he had a urine infection.

I hope he is OK soon and it is nothing more than too much acidic food.

It sounds more like balanitis, my ds has had it several times, prob because he's always playing with it, and antibiotics have always cleared it up quickly.

Ring the doctors in the morning, and explain, and I'm sure they'll squeeze you in.

WEnt to Dr's and he said no infection as took a water sample but he has a very tight foreskin and boys at this age tend to fiddle alot!!! and it has become a bit sore. IT should stretch in the next few years if not -circumcision

Im not convinced as I saw blood in his pj pants anyway will just monitor it

Poor little thing.

DS had a tight foreskin which was apparently what triggered the balinitis and the hospital visits to have the tightness monitored for a bit.

An infection in his willy wouldn't show up in a urine test anyway so I think you are right to keep an eye on it. Mind you, if it does get an infection it will be more than uncomfortable - it will sting like hell and your DS will let you know!

I am not a boy and the whole idea of it made me wince!
