Am quite distraught after changing 4 month old DS's nappy and discovering what looks like nappy rash .

I've got some sudocrem so will try that, but would be grateful for any other nappy rash tips. How long does it normally take to clear up? We're going away for a few days, so he'll be in disposables instead of his usual cloth - will that help or hinder?

This has coincided with two or three days of constant dirty nappies. He's usually a 'one a day' boy but now he's doing 4 or 5 poos a day. They've become a bit lumpier and brighter in colour too. He's FF and no solids yet. Is this pretty normal.

Am feeling very guilty about nappy rash as if it's in some way my fault .

Sudocrem always worked for my two - I tended to use it all the time, as a preventative, but if they did have an outbreak, it cleared it up pretty quickly. The more frequent dirty nappies could be the cause. Frequent nappy changes are a must - or if possible nappy-free time (put him on an old towel and let him have a kick about). Disposables may help as they tend to draw the wee away from the skin, but still keep changing frequently.
Just a thought, but both the more frequent pooing, and the nappy rash could both be side effects of teething?

Buy some Metanium - Sudocrem won't shift it.
Disposables might help but tbh there isn't much you can do apart from change regularly (not using wipes ovbviously) and using metanium.

With my ds it is almost always related to something he has eaten but yours is too little for that.

If he is really raw you may want to sit him in some warm water to shift any really bad ones rather than rub with cotton wool.

It isn't your fault but I do understand the guilt and its horrid to see them in discomfort.

And yes it might well be teething - is he really dribbly and drooly?

I would also use Metanium. I usually use sudocream but he's just developed nappy rash (due to solids and pooing four times a day!) and the sudoceam isn't helping. Used metanium twice today and it already looks better!

Thanks folks. Stuck at home just now, but will get some metanium.

I think he is teething - very dribbly and rosy cheeked. He's not himself today either.

Re wipes - i normally use washable wipes, but have some disposable wipes for our trip. Will it make it much worse?

Wet camomile teabags wiped over the area after you've cleaned it. Someone here suggested it and it helped no end. I think that took some of the sting away. Sudocrem made it worse.

We tracked ds' down to certain fruits (plum and citrus being the main culprits) which literally burnt his poor bum on the way out .

Thanks funtimes.

Don't know if anyone around this morning, but his poo is now bright green! Is this normal? Leaving in 20 mins for train to london...
