Toddler toileting limbo, advice please.

Ds is nearly 2. He knows that we do wee-wees, etc, in the potty or toilet (mummy gets a clap ), but won't consider doing it himself and refuses to consider sitting on the potty to try and catch one. He'll sometimes tell me that he's doing a poo, but never a wee. He'll sit in his own mess for ever and a day, so he's not in a rush to toilet train.

However, he utterly refuses to wear nappies. The crunch came when he and I injured ourselves (nothing lasting) trying to change a nappy when he wouldn't lie down. I've never got the hang of putting a nappy on while he's standing up (cloth or disposable) and neither of us can take any more .

So...

  1. Can we just substitute pull-ups for nappies?
  2. If so, which are nice and absorbant without costing a fortune? I'm dreading the weekly cost, as we've mostly used cloth until now.
  3. If not, any advice on making nappy changing a 2 year old easier ?

can't say about affordable but we've been using huggies pull ups for night nappies for ages as DD wouldn't let us put a nappy on her after the bath and I've found them really good! Lidl nappies are super and cheap, but not sure if they do pull ups.

It sounds like hard work! Good luck...

Thanks, sounds like I can then, brilliant . I didn't want to get him all excited about pull-ups if it wasn't viable. I'll have a pootle around Lidl tomorrow.

I think that the transfer to a 'big boy's bed' has made him start to define 'baby' and 'big boy's' things.

  1. Yes.
  2. None of them; cloth are probably more absorbent than disposable when it comes to pull-ups.
  3. Wrestling.

If you can get him pooing on a toilet/potty, then you can buy undies and stuff a soaker in the front of them to catch a wee accident. The Y-fronts I got had a fold of cloth at the Y which was the perfect size for a soaker.

ches, whats a soaker please?

Something to soak up the wee. We get something called a "Diaper Doubler" around here (US) which is disposable but fits perfectly, but no reason a cut up microfibre dish cloth can't do the trick.
