What's a dream feed?

Have read about people doing this, but I just assumed it was a feed in the middle of the night - have just realised that apparently you do it while the baby is still asleep! Is this right? If so, do you do it when they would normally feed? M wakes up anytime between 10 and 11.30 for a feed - would we just try to feed him before he wakes up > How would this mean he'd sleep longer than if he actually woke up for it? (he goes til 2-3ish) Or have I got the wrong end uf the stick...?!

I think (and someone will probably come along and tell you differently...) that you feed them just before they would normally wake up, they feed without rousing themselves properly, then they tend to sleep better when they are a bit older, because they are actually used to sleeping through the night, even though they are being fed when they need it.

if that makes sense...

Lift baby before he is due to waken, make no effort to waken him and either latch him on or pop bottle teat in his mouth and wiggle it til he starts to feed.

idea is you do it about 10 / 11 before you go to bed to help fill baby up so goes longer through the night. if your baby is waking at this time anyway it may not have any great effect until he is sleeping a bit longer.

I dream fed dd when she was 3mo. She used to wake at 3am for a feed so we decided to give it a go.

We fed her in her room, lights off at around 10.30 just before we went to bed. She was still asleep but I still winded her. It worked a treat and she went through to 6/7am.

A month later I decided to stop it and see what happened - She slept through regardless!

I did this at about 10ish too, worked like a charm. Did it for about 4 or 5 months then dropped it and he slept through!
