Are Motherease really the best wraps?

My advisor at The Nappy Lady says these are the best on th emarket. I knowit's trivial but I just don't like the prints! Obviously they'll be hidden away in clothes most of the time so it dosn't really matter but I just wondered...

I've found them the most reliable - my sister swears by wool for older ones.

cheesesarnie · 11/11/2008 22:43

i found different ones work for different babies/parents.but i did find them extremly good.you can buy plain ones.

thumbwitch · 11/11/2008 22:44

I only have motherease nappy wraps and you can buy plain white ones. They are very good.

The airflow are the best unless you go for wool.

WundaWuman · 12/11/2008 00:51

yes, yes, yes!

BigBadMouse · 12/11/2008 09:57

Without any doubt - yes! You'll soon get to like the prints once you discover all the funkier ones leak all over the place and lead to much changing of clothes! You can get white, pale blue or pale yellow if you just want plain ones.

If you really, really don't like the prints and want a funky print that is relatively reliable then you could try the TotsBots Flexiwrap or Rainbow Wrap (the new ones without the gussets) or one of the Nature babies ones - it has leg gussets and poppers (there are several types).

The airflow is usually the better of the two motherease but that does depend on what nappy you have underneath it and the shape of your baby. It is a very versatile wrap though.

Best of all, Motherease wraps are well made, last for ages AND have a good resale value. You might have trouble selling some other types of wrap second hand and, considering they are not cheap new, that can be a bit of a pain if you buy a load and find they don't suit.

thisisyesterday · 12/11/2008 10:00

yes, they are. we've tried many, many, many diff wraps and they always come out top.

lollipopmother · 12/11/2008 10:35

I think the Popolino wraps are based on the Motherease ones, they have different patterns and are a smidge cheaper. I've never used anything other than the Airflow and I've only had 1 leak on to clothes and that was down to serious operator error!

BigBadMouse · 12/11/2008 12:51

Yes you can get a leaf patterned one-life wrap which is very much like the airflow - PUL is a bit thicker. Not a very exciting pattern but another option I guess

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 12/11/2008 13:15

Yes they are very good - i used the airflow but just couldnt get exctied over my cloth bum in a savannah print - weenotions do some wraps and i have one and i have to say it is very very good and uber funky too. The new gussetless tots wraps are good but the material feels a bit non material like for my liking.

imnotmamagbutshelovesme · 12/11/2008 13:15

Yes.

Just buy plain.

changer22 · 12/11/2008 13:17

Yes - buy plain and then they won't show through summer clothes. I object to the jungle prints or whatever showing through some nice summer dress.

And they're cheaper.

weepootle · 12/11/2008 13:25

I've been meaning to start exactly this thread for days now- thanks!

I don't get why they don't do a pale pink one? Looks like I'll have to stick to boring white as well.

BigBadMouse · 12/11/2008 16:11

Weepootle - strange as it may seem, pink nappies don't tend to sell very well so maybe that is why they don't do a pale pink wrap. Tots had a huge surplus of old-style pink rainbow bots when they changed the design and when BG sold off their V2s half price to make way for the V3 everything went very quickly apart from the pink

I've got several pale pink motherease wraps after I washed some plain white with a red lollipop softee and a red kiwi quick flip .

lollipopmother · 12/11/2008 17:26

Maybe it's because we don't mind putting boy colours onto girls but putting a pink nappy on a boy is seen as a bit of a no-no, so it instantly cuts out half of the market.

I was a bad bad girl today and bought another four Wonderoos, I really shouldn't have done, I'll regret it when I haven't got anyone any Xmas presents due to lack of funds!

lollipopmother · 12/11/2008 17:27

Woops, my Wonderoos anecdote was purely to say that I bought in 'boy' colours, but I forgot to add that bit!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 12/11/2008 17:43

naughty lollipop! that just gives me even more encouragement to order bumhuggers!

But agree with everyone else! Airflow is the best (I use it over ME sandy's, terry squares, bamboozles, ellas house and homemade) - I'm not too keen on the prints either and all the new ones I bought are pale yellow, which is actually a nice yellow. And oddly enough I do miss my white one DD had for her first few weeks (XS), so had to buy one (2ndhand though new)

weepootle · 12/11/2008 18:20

That's a good point actually, I'm buying for my second which I know is a girl but if I'd used them for my first dd I probably would've been thinking ahead and avoiding pinks! Oh well, have to keep my eyes peeled for any pink bargains!

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 12/11/2008 18:27

Yes, they are fantastic, and I have used a lot of wraps.

The 'asia' and the 'savanah' prints are actually really nice when you get them, esp. the 'asia' all little pandas v. cute.

weepootle · 12/11/2008 19:24

I emailed motherease asking whether they had any plans for a pink wrap / new designs and they've replied already saying they've just brought out a pink one but it's only available to view on the Canadian website.

weepootle · 12/11/2008 19:31

Oops, read it wrong- the wraps arn't available to view online yet, it was the pink sandy's you can view here

thehouseofmirth · 12/11/2008 21:32

Thanks all that is super-helpful!

Not in our house they're not. The wraps from here surpass the motherease in reliability, fit, range, and affordability. They fit well, they don't leak, they come in all manner of colours, prints and plains, and they are not expensive. We found the motherease caused reddening around the binding, had the potential to wick through the gussets and up the binding, were plasticky, plain and unappealing even in the prints. The white goes yellowy over time and they are a horrible feeling wrap.
I think they trade off the back of their renown rather than their actual reliability (bit like bambino mio) because they're what people are used to seeing. If you prefer a big name wrap to a WAHM wrap then go for a bummis (used to be cotton bottoms) not as reliable as the nappyelites but still better IMO than the motherease.
Just my opinion though don't shoot me.

MrsBadger · 13/11/2008 09:30

yes they are, with the Popolino motherease-a-likes a close second

Nature Babies come close and are prettier but do tend to wick round the legs quicker if you have a heavy wetter

tbh you never see them anyway except under sundresses when IMO it is worth having a nice-looking wrap - I saved the whitest ones for sundress days
