Presumably you are an OU newbie?

If this is for a level 1 course then look at it from 2 aspects.

Firstly the planning element in terms of time and how you are going to fit in around your current arrangements.

Secondly, how you are going to learn - note taking style, spider diagrams etc

Look at your week as a whole to spot all your commitments and see where you get odd chunks of time - say when the kids are at school, dance/football clubs or the washing is on - where you can read your texts or make notes for essays to write later. Even 30 minutes work here and there can get you through a surprising amount of work in a week.

Also think about your strengths/weaknessesa and the best time for you to study. Having a timetable to study and what you want to achieve in that time (read 2 chapters of a text or skim read 3 larger books) may seem a bit school-like but it is the best way to make sure you cover everything.
