Would a steam wash destroy nappies?

What do all you nappy gurus think... would steam destroy any elastic involved in my shaped nappies or could it be the stain removing answer to my prayers while the sun is too feeble to do the job?

I'm researching washing machines pre-purchase and have seen one that has a steam sanitising programme, about which Which? says:

The Whirlpool AWO/D AS128 washing machine cleans well on its main 40 degrees cotton program and is outstanding on the easy-care program. It also includes three steam options.

The short Steam Refresh cycle aims to quickly remove odours, while the steam sanitisation option offers an anti-bacterial effect. This is quite a specialist program so you're unlikely to use it frequently, and it adds more than an hour to the program time. We were very impressed with the steam stain removal setting though - it takes about as long as the 40 degrees cotton wash but with even better cleaning results. The rinsing cycle removes an acceptable amount of detergent. This is an AAB energy efficiency rated machine with an 8kg drum, so you can wash lots in one go. With a full load energy and water usages are low, so its well suited to families. Spin speed is 1200 rpm which removes plenty of water, but you can also get a 1400 rpm model, the AWO/D AS148.

The electronic display means its easy to see your program selection and monitor the progress of the wash. There are plenty of extra programs to choose from including wool, synthetic, eco, hand wash and delicates, plus rinse hold and delayed start options.

Pros: Good all-round cleaning, great on the easy-care wash, impressive steam stain removal option

Cons: Noisy

I really wouldn't recommend it tbh (the steam wash not the washing machine itself )

I reckon it;d knacker the elastic

live with stains till summer like I am

Thanks! Was tempted for a moment but stain-free is no compensation for baggy, limp nappies so I guess I'd better learn to embrace the Pollack-like designs for the next 6 months (aaagh!)

Are you useing fleece liners? The fleece will catch the worst of the poo and stop the nappies from staining in the first place.
