Why can't I put baby in the buggy bit yet?

I have an iCandy Cherry. DS (15wks) is on the verge of growing out of the carrycot and is also immensely bored having to be on his back all the time when we are out. But the buggy bit says from 6 months. Is there a good reason for that or could he go in earlier? I asked HV and she was a bit vague and seemed to think it would be fine for him to be in it now.

Any advice appreciated! I don't want to wreck his spine or anything but it would be great if there's really no good reason he can't go in.

It's because it has a bucket shaped seat. On the bugaboo instructions it says that the bucket seat in reclined position is okay for short periods of time so probably up to 2 hours at a time like in a car seat. Babies are much better laing flat. My other suggest is to pad the bucket shaped bit out with a folded blanket to make it much shallower - back in the 90's the silver cross pushchairs used to come with a foam wedge to make their bucket shaped seat suitable from birth.

Does it lay totally flat?

I know babies are advised to lie totally flat until 6 months because of their developing spines but TBH if it lies back with a slight angle then Id go for it if you think he's ready.

You get prams for babies age 3 months and up that dont lie back totally and I see loads of people using car seats on prams (pet hate of mine )and a pushchair must be better than that surely.

If you and DS are ready go for it! Come to think of it my DS was sitting up a bit in his pram at 3 months just at 1 position up fromm lay flat but he was also very bored.

yes is due to the bucket shape, if you imagine the babies back and legs make a 'L' shape, babies should be sitting supported in it
