Want to hear my money saving nappy idea?

OK this might not be revolutionary but in the spirit of the credit crunch I thought there's no harm in sharing.

I bought a pack of Sainsburys basic nappies (98p I think) and they aren't great. However, whenever DD has been at nursery there is that couple of hours between getting home and bedtime. I've stuck one of these basic ones on just to cover that couple of hours (if that). It hasn't got time to leak, and if it's just one wee I don't feel it's so wasteful binning it after such a short wear.

Probably only saves about a pound a month but I think it all helps!

that's really good actually. Though we were lucky to ever get 2 hours out of a pampers
Thanks for sharing.

My friend rips her wet-wipes down the middle so she has two smaller wipes instead of one big one that only gets half used, I thought this was particularly stingy until I saw her use a whole one and saw that it was only half used.

Oh gosh, I have wet wipes 'issues' - see red if dh uses more than one (or two if really really necessary) . Only use them when out now - or for dd, as we have a load of fleece cloths (cut up from a big blanket) that I think are nicer on ds's bum - they just get chucked in normal wash (it's only runny bf poo ) and cheaper too.

I do use disposables, but have a few washable nappies that I use for those 'only one or two hours before bedtime' changes. Try to do one washable a day (if in the house).

Do not use Pampers or Huggies, Tesco's Superfit are IMO better and a lot cheaper, always buy the largest pack you can.

Wipes - Tesco's Sensitive 4 packs for £3.60 even better than BOGOF on Pampers or Johnsons

I agree about wipes. I have flannels from woolworths in a tupperware soaked in chamomile tea.

My DH put one of the cheapo nappies on DD in the middle of the night without realising and it was still holding everything in the morning!

i used to wash lightly used wet wipes and use them again. They stood up to a couple of washes before holes appeared.
I think I bought only 3 or packs in 2.5 years of real nappy use. Used cloth wipes at home.
