Suggestions needed to keep dds hands warm at night

DD (4 mths) has started waking up at 4.30am. We use a grobag 2.5 tog but her hands are always icy in the morning so I'm wondering if maybe that's waking her. Does anyone have any suggestions? I still have scratch mitts but they never stay on for long. She kicks off blankets almost as soon as I put them on and will never leave her hands under no matter how cold - she likes to be able to move around.

if her hands are cold then i'd have thought that means she's cold. No real help but i used to dress them warm and really firmly tuck them in with lots of covers.

maybe put her in a top with longer sleeves so it came down over her hands?

You can get sleepsuits with built in scratch mitts from next (upto 6 months)

it is quite normal for their hands to get cold, but make sure that her core temperature is warm (hand down their chest or back to feel!)

Next and Matalan both do sleepsuits with the scratch-mitts that turn over on the sleeves - DS cou.d never get his hands out of those!

She could be having a growth spurt - very normal at this age - and need a bit extra milk, or it could just be 'one of those things'

Hope you get back to a night's sleep soon.

Thank you. I hadn't been able to find any sleepsuits with mitts past 3 months so will check those out. You might also be right about her being too cold: I've been very worried about her overheating so have only dressed her in her sleepsuit plus grobag so I'll try a vest underneath tonight and see if that makes a difference.

She ate a huge amount earlier this week so I suspect you're right BTLT and she is going through a growth spurt. She is also fascinated by everything at the moment and easily distracted during feeds so I think she isn't eating as much as perhaps she needs to.

Cot death advice says don't worry about cold hands. Like earlier poster, feel down their back or chest - that should be warm but not hot.

Sounds like a growth spurt or developmental change (sometimes 'new tricks' wake them up) to me.

My DS1 always had icy hands and my DD1 does too.

Socks. Baby socks - they come down further than scratch mitts, over the top of the sleepsuit sleeves, so are harder to remove. We used them for ds to stop him scratching when he had eczema.

The side effect of this was that he now uses a little pair of socks as "comfort items" a bit like a blanket, as he got used to having them up by his face! Snuzzle socks we call them now!

Greenbaby used to do sleepsuits with fold down mittens.

Both my LO's had icy cold hands and feet at night but was told that's normal as long as tummy's warm to touch.

Thank you. I didn't know it was normal and nothing to worry about. Will carry on as before then. She has eaten a bit more today and slept a little less so she may sleep better tonight.
