I'm mentoring an "Access to Nursing" student, her course ends in December, she starts Adult Nursing at uni in Jan I would like to get her a "congrats on completing your course & good luck with uni" present. Have no idea what to get her, probably needs to be a bit practical but I don't really want to get her a book. Any ideas.

first thought was a nurses dictionary - but you said not a book
i use this all the time
or a bnf
or a stethescope
or a years bus pass
or some vouchers for topshop to fund her new wardrobe that will be essential for starting uni
or a nurses watch

zavvi vouchers( you can print them online)
a driving lesson
a voucher for some really good work shoes- she will need them( Scholl or the like)

Thanks for those suggestions, she drives and has a watch. If I decide on a book how useful is the Royal Marsden Clinical Nursing Procedures and rather than BNF how about Trounce's Clinical Pharmacology. Stethescope might be a good one. When she started this course I gave her a clip file, post-it notes, highlighter pens & a memory stick. She's a mature student and is strapped for cash.

im not really up to date on books - her uni will give her a list of books they recommend and she is best sticking to them. maybe give her a choice?

another piece of equipment that i could not do with out is my tourniquet - but that is really boring

nailpolish · 04/11/2008 12:10

A really nice diary to put all her placements, modules etc in with a nice black ink pen to go with it. Personalised pen even better so some doctor doesn't nick it. You could write a nice encouraging message in the front of the diary because it can be tough sometimes being a nursing student and something to help you smile is worth a million. In a similar vein, an emergency bottle of wine is a treat especially when you have had a crap day on placement and you don't have enough money to buy one.

Footspa....I know when I was still a nurse I sometimes/often wished for one....and I was a young one back then....

How does the following sound 1/2 bottle of champagne, nurses dictionary, stethescope, scissors with a clip and some nice hand cream
