Where do you study?

I know we all study differently but just wondered where you's all find the best place is?

When I have done it at home I can be distracted by children down stairs, ironing, sweeping up etc.

The uni library may be best for me but sometimes I don't get a chance to open a book until 8.30pm, and by then can't be bothered travelling out to the uni.

What do you find works best for you?

i try studying in the kitchen while dd does colouring or playing in living room.

college is perfect but i cant go there once she's finished creche (half four).

My house is tiny so no where to escape from dc. I work at the dining table during the day if I need to spread books out & on the family pc when typing things up. I do find it hard to stay focused at times and am very easily distracted at the best of times....mn, ebay, email, This Morning, Jeremy Kyle, Loose women etc etc. I've learnt to barter with dc ie leave me alone for an hour, don't talk to me, don't look at me and don't stand next to sighing. Then after we'll do something that you want to do.

oh brightwell it's hard to stay motivated sometimes isn't it?

i spent the day doing nothing and i'm running the risk of falling behind. feel awful about it tonight.

Thanks for the replies.

The distractions at home can be too much so will just have to get some more disciplined.

I can go into a spare room, well spare until dd1 decides she doesn't want to share with dd2 anymore. . Even in the room I hear the fights etc downstairs, this is with dh watching them, and end up getting involved.

i know what you mean about studying at home...i used to jyust nip to the libary ( before DS) and it for hours and get everything done in one go, whole essays included, then DS came along 3 weeks into my second year and changeed the whole thing...although i managed to get work done during the day taking him to the libary with me, if he woke up he would be content looking at the lights for a while, but now i would never take a 2 year old with me...although some do and when you go to get work done the last thing you need is someone elses Dc running around! ( i try not to think badly of those who bring there children)
i now study inbtween lectures At home, whilst running up and down stairs unloading the tumble dryer, loading the washing machine, talking on MN, hoovering, i just cant settle if my house is untidy. i have however found that if i take my Ds to nursery for 8 am i can come haome and have a wizz around the place, then start uni stuff for 9...thats if i have a late lecture. but other rthan that im screwed untill he goes to bed!
and on top of all this one of the girls on my course( with no children/ job/responsibilities) told me that the reason that i get things done quicker than everryone else is that i have more time as i dont socialise as much as they( meaning those with a life!) do. oh i cant wait till she has children! lol!

I study on my bed, with the TV on and type up my work on the laptop.

I can't work when sat at a desk!

Luckily my dc are in bed asleep by 6.30 pm and dh is fanatastic round the house (when guided in the right direction!) and does most of the cooking, so I have every week night free to myself.

However, dh has just taken on a large commitment, that will require him to do a lot of 'homework' so there's a good chance we will both have our heads stuck in books every evening very soon!!

FairLadyRantALot · 05/11/2008 21:21

I am , I suppose, wuite selfish when I need and want to study....tend to either go to our little office or do it in our bedroom....my Kids now know that when I say I am not really here, I am at University, that they better NOT disturb me....

I am quite good at avoiding housework

colie · 05/11/2008 22:09

I can only afford to put dc into nursery when I have classes so can;t really put them in and then study.

Think I will definately have to ignore the housework, which I seem very able to do when on mn, but not so when I should be studying. Oh and also ignore any cries of "mum" and just leave dh to it every evening and weekend.

anothermansmother - i would have been tempted to hit your college colleague.
