Think my poor 10 month old had piles

Hello. DD is 10 months. She has a red lump near her Anus and is sore going for a poo (but isn't consipated).I showed my Mum today and she agreed she thinks it is piles.

Is there anything I can do for her? And can I still use nappy cream on her as she is a bit sore anyway? I can go into town tomorrow, is there anything I can get for it?

And should I take her to the Doctors on monday?

She is quite happy in herself and doesn't seems to bother her when she isn't pooing.

Has anybody else experienced this with a young baby?

I wouldn't put anything on her bum until you see the doctor. You could speak to the pharmacist but my feeling is that he/she will tell you to speak to GP.

BlueberryPancake · 01/11/2008 22:01

oh and try to keep her bum as clean as possible so change nappies often and maybe a couple of baths a day, until you see your GP? And maybe don't use wipes, because the cleaning product can 'sting' the skin a bit, just lots of water and cotton wool.

chloemegjess · 01/11/2008 22:13

ok. Thanks. There is a possibility that it is nothing and that it is something that is meant to be there, just never noticed it before as it is something you wouldn't see unless you were really in that area if you see what I mean? I noticed it when I was cleaning out a gross poo that had got in all the creases. I have never noticed it before though and to me it doesn't look right. I am hoping I can speak to a pharmacist tomorrow, being sunday. I will ring Docs on monday morning and they usually give me an appointment within a few hours for her.

We change nappies quite a lot anyway as she still poos at LEAST twice a day, usually more! Will bath more often though. And will sort some alternatives to wipes out tomorrow so they are handy.

Just had a thought. She used a different nappy last night as we were at a friends and she gave me one to change her instead of me getting hers out the car. She then wore it overnight (so about 11pm till 9am). It was a tesco nappy (not the value ones) which we had never used before. I then noiced this at the first nappy change this morning. COuld this be related?

Bumping in case somebody else knows anything?

Maybe not as asorbant, allergic...guesses, phone NHS direct for advice, they are okay with this 08454647(sems like short number, but is number. They are fine with contacting them with queries, espesh with children.

chloemegjess · 02/11/2008 00:15

They were very absorbant and I was very impressed with them actually but she could be allergic.

She is in bed now so I will wait till the morning and might give NHS direct a call if it is still sore. And will give her a warm shower with just water in the morning instead of wiping her bum with wipes. She loves the bath/shower anyway so that is fine.

We were planning to go out for the day tomorrow, do you think it is still ok to go? Only shopping and not far from home so could go home if needed.

you will know in the nite, what wipes are you using....have you changed them?

NotQuiteCockney · 02/11/2008 07:41

A pile is unlikely in a child of this age - piles come from age, constipation, and walking upright, none of which a 10-month-old does much!

Could be a fissue, if she was constipated.

chloemegjess · 02/11/2008 11:34

She does walk, just needs to hold on with one hand but she is on her feet 90% of the time and won't lie down or anything when awake, she just wants to be walking round everything or with her push along walker.

What is a fissue? Sorry just have no idea!

I have never had piles myslef so no idea what to look for really.

Why would I know in the night? She sleeps though so didnt see her till this morning? Been using wipes but we have always use them

A fissure is a tear in the skin, like a scrape or cut. They can bleed, and hurt a lot, but they do go away.

It takes years of walking upright to get piles!

chloemegjess · 02/11/2008 18:38

The skin is not broken, it is a small lump which looks red and sore.

NQC - do you think I should still take her to the doctors in the morning or not bother? And what about the nappy cream?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 02/11/2008 20:20

I think the lump could be a healed (or healing) fissure. I would use nappy cream, unless it seems to be hurting her, and keep an eye on it. If it doesn't clear up in a week or two, I'd take her to the GP.

chloemegjess · 02/11/2008 20:24

OK thanks, wish I had read that before I put he rto bed with no cream!

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 02/11/2008 23:01

I would maybe stick to using vaseline or something similarly inert.

chloemegjess · 03/11/2008 11:13

seems to be getting worse? Doesn't bother her when we wipe her though.

as NQC says it sounds like a fissure, but tbh i would take to see your GP.

AmIWhatAndWhy · 04/11/2008 17:47

It sounds like a fissure for sure. My DD had this quite badly. Our HC proffesionals were quite crap in how they handled it though.

I agree to just keep an eye on it unless it is causing her discomfort.

chloemegjess · 04/11/2008 19:01

How long do you think I should leave it to heal by itself until she need to go to see the doc? It doesn't bother her when she is playing, just when she does a poo, which is a few times a day
