Suddenly tearful and moody, extreme personality change in 7 year old.

It's 7 year old again. (posted numerous times about him).

I just don't know what is up with him lately. He has become really tearful and moody. Like the other day I threw his teddy lightly at him and it hit him gently in the face ... normally he would laugh and chuck it back (he's usually hard as nails and wouldn't have considered whinging) but this time he started crying and stormed upstairs, barracaded his door and wouldn't come out for ages. He's going off in moods constantly for stupid things lately.

Today I took them bowling, paid for two games. Half way through first game he suddenly stormed out of the ailse and hid behind the counter thing with his coat over his face ... refused to speak, refused to tell any one what was wrong, refused to play anymore .... he stayed like this for over an hour. He later said it was because my sister shouted at him but this doesn't ring true because usually, if she does he shouts back at her or takes the mick (not saying it's right but that shows the sudden change in him), he would NEVER cry because someone had shouted at him ... never. He laughs in the face of the headmistress when he's in trouble so 14 year old girl shouting at him usually has NO effect at all.

And just now, he's in bed and all of a sudden I hear him sobbing. I go in and ask him what's wrong and he's lying with his cover over his face refusing to speak or anything.

I'm getting so sick of it, he's such hard work at the best of times but this new 'episode' is really getting me down

Hi I have a 7yo who can have crazy mood swings for no reason. My friend has 4 kids (eldest 21 and youngest 4) so she has been through all the phases and she said that at 7 they seem to get a surge of hormone and change completely. She also has a 7yo and has seen it happening with him too.

I would obviously rule out problems at school/with the teacher/friends all that stuff but unfortunetly I would say it is just a phase. Early teenagehood me thinks.

They have a hormone surge at 7-8. You have to sit it out I'm afraid. It does get better. Lots of sport will help with the testosterone.
