Anybody else have a child who screams and cries every morning rather than gurgling happily in cot?!

DD is nearly 22 months. Every morning since she was born (well, prob since she started having a proper nightime really) she has woken up in the morning screaming and crying. I've been waiting for the morning when I get to wake up and listen to my happily gurgling child for what seems forever and it's never going to happen! And, nope, she doesn't call for mummy or daddy because so far she's remaining resolutely mute!

So, I guess my questions are:

Anybody else got one/had one like this?
When might it end?
Is there anything you did that helped? (it's only just dawned on me that there's a tiny chance something might help - I'm so used to it that it's only when we stay at friends' who have happily gurgling children that I realise there is another way..)

It's not that big a problem but it would be so nice to not wake up with the "death screech" as it has fondly become known!

I get that. Does she stop when you go in? Mine usually does but often he still cries until he gets his milk.

Hopefully someone will be along to tell us they'll start doing gurgling by the time they're 2!

Hi Robino

Yes, my little one screamed for quite some time, he is almost 2 now. Then he stopped for a while but he has started to whine again recently. I guess they go through phases. Does your child like nursery rhymes at all? We played music at night and sometimes in the morning, he would wake up and sing the nursery rhymes instead. Better than crying eh? You could give it a go and see.

my DD3 used to do this. and after having had her two sisters, it was achock, as well as a worry as I knew it was not 'usual' IYGWIM.

for her tho, she had severe reflux and silent reflux, meaning that she had a constant feeling of heartburn, hence the screaming.

I am not for one moment saying that this could be the reason for your DD, but it might be worth talking to your HV to see if it is an indicator of something more than just a child who wakes up grumpy.

incidently......DD3 still never wakes up happy. (she is 9 now). I think it was/is also personality.

altho, niether my other two DD's wake happy anymore......but then they have hormones controlling them

My ds1 was exactly the same - now 3 he wakes up in an OK mood but has to get up and go (no cuddles in bed) - I think he wakes up hungry and wanting company!

The screaming in the morning stopped when he moved in with DD - improved life for me, do feel a bit sorry for dd as she is talked at most mornings!

Like most sleep related things I think it's down to luck!
