Big boy's bed

Ds (nearly 2) is having a go in a 'big boy's bed' with a quilt this weekend, as his cot antics are now just getting plain dangerous .

We've given it a good press and drawn his attention to beds on programmes and such. He's quite excited as Macca Pacca and Upsy Daisy both have 'big beds'!

Does anyone have any helpful hints to improve our odds of success and make it a good experience for him?

I moved my DD to a big bed a week and a half ago.
I wasn't really sure about how she'd take to it, but it has been no problem at all.
I put the bed into her room and moved the cot across, but left it in there.
I was intending to put her down for some daytime naps in the bed first, before letting her spend the entire night in it.
However, the very first evening, before she'd taken any naps, she insisted on sleeping in the big bed and hasn't returned to the cot since.
In fact, I actually removed the cot from her room this afternoon.
If your DS is sufficiently excited about the move, you may well find that it goes perfectly well without any additional preparation.
Good luck!!

We moved DD into a big girls bed last weekend. She's just turned 2. Admittedly hers was a cotbed, so it was just a matter of taking the sides off and changing the footplate, but it went well. She'd had a duvet for the last couple of months so it wasn't too big a change for her. We encouraged her to sit on the bed, and read stories and let Daddy rest on it too. Lots of teddies too. She was quite knackered by the time it came to bedtime as we'd been out with friends for a long walk, so not sure if she even noticed it was a big girls bed . we've also laid a spare duvet down next to the bed, making a soft landing for the few occasions she's rolled out of it

We did the deed a couple of nights ago. Here's my thread about it.

I took DD quilt and bedding shopping with me and got her to help cose that and also a new rug and scatter cushions for her room. She was so excited the first night she wouldn't even give us cuddles good night.

i would suggest building the bed during the day so he gets to sit on it and help put his fav toys on it, have stories etc and then it's not a surprise at bedtime...Good that he is happy he will have the same bed as Macca....

When we moved DS1 into a big boy bed, he had problems at first with falling out in the dark so i would recommend a guard....

it sounds as if you have laid the foundations..if he doesn't like it at first though don't be disheartened...

Put the bed in the same exact spot in the room as where the cot was. My DD would not settle for ages and it was because her bed was in a different place.

Well...afternoon nap went well. The main difficulty seems to be getting the idea that you sleep under the quilt, as he's always had a bag (mainly to stop him climbing out of the cot ).

Something tells me that he'll sleep fine, but I'll have a very restless, neurotic mummy night .
