Toddler Dirty Protest!! Help!

Advice needed.

My dd is 2.6 yrs. Last week we were on holiday and she did her first two dirty protests, poo all over the holiday cottages' travel cot. Those two times were were informed by her saying 'will you clean my bottom daddy?'. Today she goes for afternoon nap, I wander off downstairs to do bits and pieces ignoring the inevitable banging around in her room that goes on for 20 mins as she settles down. Go up at teatime...poo on the walls, on her bed, on her bed on the floor (afternoon naps taken on floor), rubbed in carpet, on the rocking chair...you get the picture

Regarding potty training, she is not a happy bunny when it is mentioned. She is aware when she has had a poo but has not told us yet she wants to go. Also she does not seem at all aware of when she is going to have a wee either. Ie before bathtime wandering round naked she will have a wee and look completely astounded so I assume its a big surprise to her.

So what do I do? How would you respond to poo everywhere? I have said so far that I appreciate her trying to help but cleaning nappies is for mummies and daddies and to ask if she needs it changing. Do we try to potty train her? Do I do a reward sheet for her not dirty protesting? And why is she doing this...because its fun?? Because she doesn't want to go to bed? To help?? Or maybe just because she wants to...and she's a toddler and that's what they do...

And any recommendations for getting the smell of poo out of the carpet will also be much appreciated

TIA
Ally

Sorry Ally, can't help. Can sympathise a bit though as DD (just turned 2)has started taking her nappy off as soon as my back is turned and weeing everywhere. Her favourite is to do it in her cot then shout until I come to get her and sweetly say "Mummy, I weed in my bed!" as if I should be very proud. Think you have it worse though...

My DS is only 1 so way off this kind of thing. But was recently lent a copy of the 'Toddler Taming' book which has a section on exactly this.

Only remembered 'cos I was so horrified at what I might have coming! Unfortunately can't remember what it actually said...sorry.

Might be worth borrrowing from library or taking a peek in a bookshop?

We had this with DD1 on one occasion. I went in to get her up from her nap and she had covered the cot and everything else with the soft brown, former, contents of her nappy. She smiled sweetly at me, pointed well awy form the cot at a tiny leaf on the floor (my housework skills never great) and said "Errr, dirty!". It was actually so funny that I almost forgave her. If it is any comfort she only did it once - perhaps because I took to pinning her pjs together behind her back with two extra nappy pins so she could not pull them down or get her nappy off.

Hello, thought I would update (after a few weeks...oops!) thanks for your experiences made me feel better!

After 3rd protest, there were no more, thank goodness. So got proactive and looked for books on amazon, chose this one. She really liked it and asked for it over and over. Had it about 2 weeks now, so got out potty today, got her favouraite cartoon stickers stuck all over it, and casually left it in the middle of the living room floor...she immediately plonked herself down on it with her teddy, just like the girl does in the book...then when I changed her nappy I casually asked if she wanted to sit on it without her nappy...so she did!!! Read book twice over with her sat on potty...I'm still stunned and proud of her. She loathed the potty before this. But with a bit of positive press she loves it now...

Hope this helps others...feel really excited about it all now, and dd is v excited and happy about it too
