My child is average in many areas. I do not know what ORT level she is on. So shoot me...

She is happy.
She is kind.
We watched The incredibles this afternoon and she is having her bath.

She does not play the cello or read extensively and i do not have a clue if she has any hidden talents. Except possibly knowing all the words to a HIgh School musical advert.

She is six.
And I intend to leave her alone because if she is good at anything that DOES NOT MAKE ME A BETTER MUM THAN EVERYONE ELSE!!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sagacious · 20/10/2008 18:35

My dd is 4 and knows all the words to the HSM songs

[snurk]

pagwatch · 20/10/2008 18:36

My child is bright. I do know what ORT level she is.
I don't push her academically. I'm lucky, she is bright and she loves school.

nailpolish · 20/10/2008 18:39

ah pagwatch

go and get in the bath with her and fart bubbles

CountessDracula · 20/10/2008 18:39

mine is 6
she has just had egg and chips and is watching the worst witch

She doesn't play the cello either
but she does a mean Bob Dylan impression

CountessDracula · 20/10/2008 18:39

oh yes she can read though
very well
Don't push her though

Mandelbrot · 20/10/2008 18:39

I don't know all the words to HSM songs. I am 37. Therefore your children are geniuses and I am a halfwit. You can look in my bag if you don't believe me.

Mercy · 20/10/2008 18:40

I have no idea what ORT even is.

My dc school seem to follow a mish mash of schemes - all ungraded as far as I can tell (from a parents or child's pov))

Mercy · 20/10/2008 18:43

I'm guessing I've missed a thread somewhere!

So, my ds is 4.8 and cannot read a single word but he sometimes recognises his name.

JollyPirate · 20/10/2008 18:49

ORT = Oxford Reading Tree

DS was on Level 1 until very recently - beginning to learn to read finally - nearly 6.

Doesn't play cello either.

traceybath · 20/10/2008 18:50

My DS said to me the other night in a whispered voice 'darling think we may have to accept that DS1 aged 4 may just be AVERAGE'.

Honestly - they're children - i just want them to be happy and am just not buying into hot-housing.

There are worse things than being average .

Tortington · 20/10/2008 18:51

right on sister!

CountessDracula · 20/10/2008 19:01

do they even make cellos for a 6yo?
Or would you just put a viola between their legs?

CountessDracula · 20/10/2008 19:02

actually she will never be a cellist
I have a friend who is one and she hoiks this bloody great thing all over the place - most inconvenient. DD will play something portable (or the drums so I can play when she is out )

pagwatch · 20/10/2008 19:23

sorry Mercy.
I was just having an aaaahhhhhh moment

Thank you all for hearing me rant a little.

pagwatch · 20/10/2008 19:24

Cant stand parents who think just cos their dc is good at something it must all be down to them and to let eveyone else know about it. What about a bit of modesty, no one likes a big head.
