What do I do about car seats for my heavy boy?

Ds is 7 1/2 months and weighs nearly 28lbs.
I moved him out of his Rock a Tot at 24lb as advised and into a Britax First Class (rearfacing). However, he's now nearing the weight limit for rearfacing but isn't old enough to face forwards
The only options I can see are to either continue facing rearwards but over the weight limit or facing forwards but under the age limit (neither of them particularly appealing tbh)
Can anyone advise? I also have a Britax Freeway in the garage but that's also forward facing so no use at all...

DS was in a front facing seat at 6 months because he was over 9 kg, and that was the maximum here. He was much happier once he was front facing.

Thanks all. Just waiting for Britax to get back to me with some advice. Ds is perfectly happy rear facing (older sister beside him helps ) and I am determined to keep him there until at least 9 months. Hopefully Britax will help, otherwise I might try the Road Safety Unit or Halfords.

Having a big baby is great but there are so many unexpected obstacles!

Reply from Britax for anyone who is looking for similar information:
Thank you for your e mail.

The maximum weight for the First Class si rearward facing is 13kg.

The legal criteria required before a child can go forward facing is
weight minimum of 9kg as well as sitting up supporting their head and
neck unaided confidently.

We do generally state the stability is around 9 months, however we do
understand that all children differ when growing.

If your child does not have the stability as well as the weight he
cannot go forward facing.

I would recommend you contact our agent In Car Safety Centre who deal
with rearward facing seats beyond 13kg.

Their contact details are:

Telephone: 01908 220 909

I hope this is helpful to you

Regards

Thanks for all the advice.

Hmmm. Not sure if that's good news for you or not. (out of curiosity, what size was he at birth? DD was 9lb 12 and everyone seemed to think she was pretty large).

Just for clarity with anyone else that might be looking for info, the number quoted by Britax is for the In Car Safety Centre in Milton Keynes - they are a retailer that stock Britax and Recaro Grp 1 rearfacing seats (look under Special Needs). They are not the same organisation as the Essex County Council Road Safety Team, who are independent advisors and have access to seats from a wider range of manufacturers but cannot sell them on.

Good luck

Ds was 9lb 8oz at birth. There have been lots of issues regarding his weight, most of which I've rambled about on here (most recent was last week and I am now keeping a food diary for the over zealous HV ) but he is just A Big Boy. Dd was only 7lb 2 so he was a bf a shock!
I am going to weigh him again next week and hopefully he will be under 13kilos. 9 months is within grabbing distance so not long to hang on for!

Both my dd's were over 9lbs when born, and both where in the rear facing carseats until 9mths. I did fined when they both started crawling/moving their weight stayed more static.
