toddler wellies/boots that actually stay on?

just bought pair of wellies for DS 15months. Got them in his size (or so i thought) but he seems to find them very awkward and just sits down and takes them off. Is this simply because they're too big or are wellies notoriously difficult for little ones? are there any wet weather alternatives for feet?

Does he really need them though? Will he be walking lots in wet weather?

Wellies aren't supposed to be fitted in any way so yes they can slip off very easily, maybe they are just too big for him, pad them out with thick socks?

we go out in the garden a lot and now it's autumn the grass is always very heavy with dew in the morning, even if it's not been raining. (which it usually has!). His normal shoes just get soaked through.

more socks.

also DS has waterproof overtrousers/dungarees with elastic under the feet so keep wellies on - and I find if it's wet enough for wellies, it's wet enough for the trousers.

yep - waterproof overtrousers/dungarees are definitely a good idea to help keep them on. They either have stirrups that go under the wellies or elastic bottoms that fit snugly around the ankle and keep the wellies on that way instead.

They are a lot more expensive (but do go in the sale) but Clarks SnowBoot style ones stay on.

Is there a wellington for the small shoe sizes -4 & 5 baby size I mean.

I have searched the Internet and they dont seem available. My grandson likes playing on my vegs patch, so its not a flat surface, He has rain proof coats and trousers. but now it is autumn the ground is very wet.-even on dry days.

I roll her socks over the top of the welly which tends to help keep them on.

mj lots of wellies in that size. pop into clarks or mothercare and most of them start in size 4

The brightly-coloured Aigle boots come in smaller sizes and are nicely narrow-fitting so they don't tend to come off and are good for wearing over tights...

Jojo Maman Bebe used to sell them online.

HeadFairy · 13/11/2008 20:21

I've just bought the the jojomamanbebe ones today, size 5 took ds out this afternoon in them, he was fine, his walking was a bit odd, a bit like Frankenstein, but they stayed on.

AccidentalMum · 13/11/2008 20:24

A snowboot style boot is best for staying on. Clarks, Sorel, Next all have them.

DS is 17 months and needs wellies for nursery. Unfortunately he is only a wee dot of a lad, feet are size 2. Does anyone have any suggestions for footwear in this size?
