ds' godfather works for luton town so it's not a premiership game or anything i think they are in league 2. anyway he desperately wants to take ds. i myself have never been to a football match so i'm not sure whether it would be ok for him to go or not.

god no way
its cold even if it is a nice day- sitting around for 90 mins is very cold

and he will get bored

I wouldn't take a 2yo anywhere where you had to sit still for 90 mins. And I am a harrrrd woman who took my 7yo to the opera.

It would just spoil his godfather's enjoyment completely. And your ds won't understand a thing. Tell him to save it for another 3 years and it will be a shared experience for the two of them.

they wouldn't be in the stands they would be in a box thing if that makes any difference?

DH took DS1 (4.5yrs) to watch his team (Bury, League 2) a few weeks ago. He loved it. They sat in the family stand.
It was a lot warmer then though.
I'd wait until next spring, and maybe just for 1st half?

Mumwhensdinnerready · 11/10/2008 14:43

His godfather would be disappointed I fear. DH took DS1 to a cricket match when he was four. Insisted he was old enough and would love it.Of course he didn't and had to be brought home after an hour, thus spoiling it for everyone else.
He was nine when he first went to a football match and I think that was about the right age. I talked to him beforehand about the likely bad language. (While he may have heard swearing in the playground he had never heard adults swear).
When he came home he said "you were right about the swearing mum. It would definately not be suitable for you"

I couldn't agree more but tell that to a cricket loving Yorkshireman.
Anyway he has now become a footy fan which suits me as I get 3 hours uninterrupted peace every other Saturday.

My DH has been taking DD to the footie for a year now - she is now 3.5. At the beginning she got a little bored and thought it was time to go home at half time, but DH explained it was the players "snack time" and they would be back for more. The more games she has gone to, the better and better she has been but they've never had to leave a game early yet. She now loves it and will tell anyone who will listen that she is a Hamilton Accies fan and sings appropriate footie songs. It gives me some time to myself too, so all good
I say, let godfather go for it with your DS

My DP plays for a footie team and he took our DD when she was 22 months and she loved it, her took her on pitch at half time for a run around and took plenty of drinks and snacks for her, and he would be the first one to bring her home if she so much as made a mumur!
But then on the other hand she has been watching football on the TV since the day she was born so she knows what it is etc and is quite happy to sit and watch it on the TV, much to my dismay!

We have taken our ds 2 a few times last time was to wembley to watch soccer aid he was fine and loved it.

Nemoandthefishes · 13/10/2008 07:40

tbh I wouldnt our ds is 5 and loves football but at the same time we dont want him to go to a match for a couple more years. Not so much because of his attention[although would not take either of the dds because of this] but more due to what he might hear

nappyaddict · 13/10/2008 10:11

kisx4 how old was he when he first went?
