Nearly 20 month old DS - haircut?

I cut the tapering wispy long bit at the back of his neck a little when he was 17 months, because we were on holiday and 5 people had referred to him as a girl on the one night . It's growing a little bit unruly again, but I just wondered what did other people do? Do you cut your child's hair? Do you take them to a barber's? Or leave it? I have noticed that he looks distinctly 'baby-like' because he's only just started walking (was prem) and also because of the wispy hair.

Any advice anyone?

Had to cut the hair of mine at 6 weeks as had so much!

we use dh's clippers on ds's hair and have done since about 10months. The first time we did it he looked like a mini-thug but now I think he just looks cute.

had to cut his hair when he was only a couple of weeks old as he was overdue and arrived with very long wisps at the back!
since then DS (15months) has had two haircuts at hairdressers, which were a rip off (£14!!) so last week our nanny said she'd have a go herself and did a brill job.

Both my DS's had their first hair cuts around the age of 2. They both had fine, wispy blonde hair until this age and I loved that it was a little wild and unruly. Never cared if people thought they were boys or girls TBH. My boys go to the same hairdresser as me - I pay around £8 per haircut but its worth it IMO as they both have long-ish hair and I like them to have it cut into a funky style (rather than standard DS "crop". Also because I know that they would not sit still for me to do it and I would prob bodge it anyway! BTW, the boys have long hair because they like it long - have asked if they want it cropped but always respond with a resounding NO!

I used dh's clippers on the longest setting for ages and ages. Then took him to the barbers. Just to get him used to th eidea. H elikes it. Now I alternate.
If it is just a wispy bit, I would , if you have the confidence, just give it a trim.

DS1 is nearly 4 ad I've only taken him to the hairdressers once - she cut his hair in a bowl shape - he looked awful, so I've gone back to doing it myself.
DS2 is 2 now and never been to the hairdressers, he has gorgeous golden curls and often gets called a girl, but it doesn't bother me, i think he's got plenty of time to have sensible hair cuts, i think unruly hair is cute on little boys!
I have to say I am not a fan of the clippers on small children!

My ds was born with hair but it hasn't really thickened up still. I cut his hair for the first time at 12 months. He has a major problem staying still so I may sound bonkers but I did it whilst he was asleep! I have since trimmed it whilst he was awake and he sat beautifully still! Don't think I'd dare take him to a barbers though!

Thanks everyone for the replies!

I think I'll hold off for a few more weeks and see if my mum will trim it a little when we go to see her, as I don't feel brave enough!

My Ds has had his hair cut three times and has just turned 18 months ols. He has really curly, thick hair so it looksreally unruly if it gets too long.
He has been to the hairdresserrs' twice with my Dh and once to the barber's with me. My DH said DS screamed at the last visit to the hairdresser's but when I took him to the barber's last week he was an angel. A tiny bt fidgety at times, but no probs at all. I say, just go for it! It helps if you have a baby friendly cutter.
