Bit depressed, been told to defere one of the courses I'm on - but how will it effect my grants?

i'm not sure which out of the 2 my grant applies to.

basically tutor's just been on the phone for the MST121 - (which is hard but tbh i'm enjoying the challenge) and I did quite poor in the prep tma (48%) so he's suggesting strongly to defer until feb and start it then, and stick to doing the MU120 which i've started along side as well.

I understand his concerns and have many similar myself tbh re the 2, but thought I could juggle the two - he's saying about not wanting me to get stressed n quit them both as i'll do v v well on the MU120, and can then build on the MST121 in feb.

thing is thou i've already had my £500 in a course grant. so slightly concerned really - also my courses have been funded, will I have to pay that money back as well (was £300 odd a course)

help!

I don't think that you will have to repay it as you will be sitting the module again. When you are refered you don't have to pay again unless you are thrown off. You normally get two attempts before this happens. I would check with the uni/college though.

i'm hoping not to, online it says

'as much of this section as possible.
To be eligible for support from the Access to Learning Fund, Open University students need to
be studying the equivalent of at least 50 per cent of a full-time course. This means you must
be studying at least 60 credit points in the academic year, 1st September to 31st August. If you are studying at least 30 points, you may still be eligable if
? you have a disability or a specifi c learning difficulty that prevents you from studying 60 points,
or if you are still intending to complete your qualification in no longer than twice the time taken'

Each course was 30 points each, and i'll still be doing the 60 points within the same year (it's just one of them will finish in the October of the same year if that makes sense?)

should be OK shouldn't it?

You should give them a call and ask them really. They are very helpful. I know that you have to have enrolled to get the access to learning fund at my Uni, it doesn't say anything about how long your course lasts if this helps.

mines open university thou - I need to call them, but have a tutorial tomorrow am at 9.30 in town.

Good luck Spandex. I'm struggling to get into MST121 myself, the step up is quite significant and going on MN is just too tempting. The whole trig radians thing is a slog.
