Please can anyone help - our 5 year old daughter (youngest of 4) has never been a great sleeper but has suddenly started being very scared when going to bed and even once she is asleep wakes up many many times during the night - each time with a different fear - my tummy hurts, my eye hurts etc. etc., bad men coming in to the room, burglars, etc. etc. Comes into our room and takes ages to settle again as she says she is so scared. Surrounded by soft toys who she thinks of as "friends", tried relaxing CDs, talked her through it etc. etc. There don't appear to be any problems at school where she is in Year 1 having already had a successful Reception Year. I'm a walking zombie now and don't know what else to try....any ideas out there PLEASE.........

This might sound a daft question.....but....is she actually awake when she is expressing these fears? DS1 had similar problems with sleep - would fall asleep ok then wake screaming and traumatised - would actually get out of bed and run around the room, down the hallway etc. He was having night terrors and, despite his physical/verbal reaction was firmly asleep. Nothing can be done - should not wake them, try and connect. Just comfort them softly and calmly and try and persuade them back to bed. It lasted around 3 months with him.

Ho hum, I was like this at that age..(I did have some fairly awful stuff happening around me at that time though).

I stopped going into my mum's bed at 6 1/2, I think I just out grew it.

Can't you just keep her in bed with you?
