Am I over reacting, or am i right to be fuming with DD

I am so cross with DD, she is 10.

I was just calling to her to come down stairs, she didn't answer so I went to look for her and she wasn't there. In fact she wasn't anywhere!

She had gone out of the house without even asking or telling me and was in her friends house across the road!!

I have just been over there and probably really embarressed her by shouting in front of her friend but I was just so cross.

Feel bad though because she is crying in her bedroom.

Am I over reacting?

No, not really! She needs to understand why it is important you know where she is and why you were worried.

I haev a 10 yo neice - difficult age. On the one hand they seem so worldly wise yet they are still so small really. My dn told me that when she's at secondary school next year she can do what she likes

The fact is, she's still a child, you need to know where she is, and that she's safe.

No way, BIG trouble! Gosh I would be annoyed with my husband if he just went out without saying something.

Not over reacting, I would have wanted to have been told/asked.

No definitely not overreacting, I would have been worried sick! 10 is not that old, they're still children really and you need to know where they are. I don't think you've been too harsh, maybe it will make her think twice before doing it again.

don't feel bad about yelling at her. What will you do?

nannyL · 07/10/2008 18:23

Not over reacting

you do not just leave the house and go out without telling asking whoever is looking after you 1st when you are 10 years old

You need to know... i mena if there was a fire (highly unlikely but if) then you might be in there burning to death searching for her... it really is VERY important

Agree, this is not the way you treat anyone you're sharing a house with. I'd be fuming with dh if he did the same thing. But more fuming with dd.

memoo · 07/10/2008 18:56

I've calmed down now and spoke to DD.

I think she understnads why I got so cross, I asked her how she would feel if I went out with telling her and she said that she would be scared. So I think she kind of got it then.

I don't bother locking the front door in the day now that DC are a bit older, but think I might have to from now on!

agree with being cross if DH did the same!
