DS1 wants to use the golden rules they have at school but i have forgotten what they are!

I quite like "If mummy says it, do it" and "be nice" they cover a multitude of other things!!

controlfreakinfreaky · 30/09/2008 22:00

i have written the house rule and posted it on kitchen wall: BE NICE! covers everything i think.... well the important stuff anyway.

Do as I say, not as I do.

(DD 5.4, DTs 2.11)

no hurting eachother - yeah right!
no food or shoes upstairs
no opening the front door
no jumping of sofas
ask mummy before you take something from fridge/cupboard

not sure what happens when they are broken, depends on the circumstances. If DD opened the front door and them them all out I'd be pretty cross, but not if she just forgot to take her shoes off!

GentleOtter · 30/09/2008 22:16

cheesesarnie - no, thats about it. Shouters get ignored, I want really does not get and I keep a dead fairy in a box (it is an old piece of feather boa but don't tell anyone)

It just works - I don't know why but it does.
I will be scuppered if the Queen ever visits though

blithedance · 30/09/2008 22:17

These are inspiring!

We have the big 5

  • I will eat my dinner
  • I will get myself dressed
  • I will try not to scream
  • No hitting and kicking
  • I will share my toys

Sofa jumping, have given up!

seeker · 30/09/2008 23:16

I also like "Be kind to people"

But I don't think that Be Nice - brilliant though it is, really covers everything. Don't be a Dingbat is pretty inclusive.

Tortington · 30/09/2008 23:22

hang your uniform up - this is always done.
everyone has set chores - these are only done after i throttle a couple of kids.

keep in contact!!!! if you are late becuase of something - let me know - text me - reverse the number i dont care - let me know
even if you are pissed off your skull at some illegal rave at 15 years old - i would rather you phone me and be safe than be afraid to phone me - on this they are all clear - and take the piss using my taxi service often

put your shoes in the PUFF! drives me nuts

rinse your plates - dried on spag sauce arrrgh

funnypeculiar · 30/09/2008 23:39
  • no hitting
  • try everything once, then you can officially not like it
  • guests get served first
  • shoes off in the house
  • I can't hear whining
  • kiss everyone at bed time
  • pleases & thank yous (currently working on excuse me )
  • wear wellies to jump in puddles

(dcs are 2.5 & 4.5)

hecate · 04/10/2008 10:07

erm, no hitting, punching or general kicking the holy crap out of each other.

try to keep the noise slightly below the level at which it makes your eardrums explode.

no whinging - not that they adhere to that one.

or the others, come to think of it.

Seriously though, we simply aim for - be nice to each other, try not to totally trash the place and always have good manners.

Pheebe · 04/10/2008 17:50

All (well most) of the preceding and, with a DH and 2 ds's - NO P*SSING ON THE TOILET SEAT WHICH MUST ALWAYS BE LIFTED AND PUT DOWN AGAIN AFTER USE

Othersideofthechannel · 05/10/2008 18:16

Sorry, I don't get this one Gentle Otter "no hands raised above the shoulder"

Despite trying to cut down, we have loads, some of ours are:

shoes off at the front door
jump on your own bed not the sofa
no pens or scissors upstairs (until I can trust DD)
no throwing hard things and no throwing upwards (so they can throw soft things down the stairwell if they want )
no hitting
don't go in parents bedroom if they aren't in there

wash your hands before a meal and before preparing food
plus lots of table manner things like ask before you get down from the table

there are lots of self made rule DCs have adopted without us ever mentioning it like asking for food rather helping themselves

Snippety · 05/10/2008 23:19

In general :

No smoking
No alcohol
Tidy up after yourself
Lots of cuddles for all

Ds is only 15 months so we're kind of making them up as he does stuff. Currently:

No guitar/piano/drums after tea - it's quiet time.
No hitting/biting
Teeth brushing only twice a day
No breastfeeding while I'm eating
No hitting the walls (that's a new one!)
