Sometimes i hear myself talking and think good god woman you sound like a loon!

So anyone else care to share the embarrasing mumbojumbo they use when talking to their DCs.

I'll start:

Socky-docks

sleepy-peepies

jimmy-jammy-jews

Snoozy-snoo

Why i can't just say socks, bedtime, pyjamas, and sleep, i really don't know

I can't be they only loon here

I have a cringe-y habit of putting 'poo' and 'moo' after dcs names, I also mimic dd pronunciations of words.

Pawslikepaddington · 01/10/2008 12:36

Oh god I do this-I can no longer actually pronounce bi-no-cu-lars, it is bi-no-you-clears. And "fiddle sticks with a cherry on the top" for "oh sy Bsy, cy C pants ow that hurt!" Although I have recently (under much stress I must add) shouted "oh fiddle!" when in the company of adults, and "oh F-ing hell and S!" in the company of dd

And that was once!

Olives are called 'ovieefs' here. And banana is 'ma-na', and yes DP and I join in the mispronunciation . Oh and we have heloppers (helicopters) and bicits (biscuits) too. Some days I think we'll all end up speaking like a toddler!

PS I do try and use the correct words so she learns, but sometimes it's just too damn cute.

Pawslikepaddington · 01/10/2008 12:57

Oooh, one of dd's friends listens to Girls Are Loud! I thought that was incredibly cute-shame dd doesn't listen to them really!

We have;

croc-a-docs (horrible shoes that ds can put on himself, so am willing to forgive them being horrible)

pantseeesssss (for pants/knickers - imagine Golum saying the word pants)

Get a wriggle on (for it's 8.15 and we are going to be laaaaate)

and have adopted several of the children's words including
sky scratchers (sky scrapers)
and the ubiquitous
psghetti

Hassled · 01/10/2008 13:03

I did get an odd look from the teacher when she heard me call DS3 "Sausage Head" - it's just become a comepletely sane and reasonable thing to say as far as I'm concerned .

orangina · 01/10/2008 13:07

DH talks like this sometimes. Drives me nuts. If he does it in public, I feel like walking away...

(I can see a new thread on the horizon... "AIBU to walk away from dh if....")

I have had very funny looks in Sainsbury's muttering at the bakery counter about 'zero bread' (bagels) DS is quite often not even with me. And it is now and always will be 'helihopters' in my house.
Growing up we had 'jefferies' for digestives and onions had to be pronounced in a bad french accent a la 'allo 'allo. My little brother was to blame.
On a slightly different note- we (DH and me) still shudder at the memory of DS saying in loud voice apropos of bald man- 'Look! that man has forgotten his hair'.

MrsEwanMcGregor · 01/10/2008 15:10

I often find myself referring to dot dots (raisins) and dip dip (ketchup)!

The whole family has also adopted DS's version of believe, saying ablieve. Ie I can't ablieve it's raining again!
