I don't think my wraps fit .... help!

I have a load of Airflow Size 1 wraps that say they should fit from 6lb - my DD is 2 weeks old today so I thought I'd try her in some real nappies, but the wraps don't seem to pull tight around her legs, in fact they hardly touch her skin at all, even on the tightest poppers. I have a Rikki but that's the same as well. Her Size 1 Sandy's is massive around the leg too, but I have two Fluffles that the chart says fit smaller babies so I'll try her in one of those next, but I don't have any other wraps - does it sound like the wraps are too big? Should they hug her around the leg?

She was weighed today and she's 8lb 3oz so the wraps should fit, although she is very tall and skinny which I suppose is causing the problem.

Can't help on the small sizes, but if your dd continues on the long and thin theme, Nature Babies will do their poppered wraps with additional poppers if you ask them and order them direct - found very useful with long thin ds.

But, yes, they should be fitted around the legs - not tight - otherwise you will find that the nappy has a tendency to wick out onto the clothes...

hmm

Ideally they should be snug at the cuffs, esp for optimum containment of runny newborn poo, but so long as they are so large and bloomer-ish (iyswim) that there's no way the nappy could peek out I'd think you'd be fairly safe from wicking.

I think the thing to do would be to try and lay your hands on some XS ME wraps till she chubs up - you won't need many and 2nd hand ones are a good buy as they're never used for long. Or see if you can borrow some?

Airflows don't need to be tight around the legs to work - in fact, people often have them too tight.

If they aren't leaking then don't worry. I have no idea how wraps don't leak even though there are gaping holes when they have their legs in the air .

Sandy's don't need to be tight either.

With both it's all trial and error really - if they leak they aren't tight enough but otherwise they are fine.

What fastening are your fluffles? They are a different fit - nippa ones give a good snug fit on a newborn but are a bit more prone to leaking if the airflow isn't closely fitted around the leg.

IME airflows are best for tall skinny ones - DD2 who is built that way needs an airflow as I can't the fit right around her legs because her waist is too small (does that make sense ). I much prefer the airflow which can be independantly adjusted.

If you do find that they are too big atm I don't think it will be long until they fit - DS was 8lb 2 at birth and went straight into small rather than XS - but only just . The XS Sandy's and airflows were a better fit but he outgrew them pretty quickly - we stretched them out until he was about 9lb 4oz ish I think.

I've got some newborn sandies and extra small airflow and rikki wraps if you're interested. It is def being the long and lean that is the problem. My youngest dd only ever made it up to M/L size airflow wraps wheres my others need extra large!

From Babykind site....

"Airflow wrap - available in five sizes, though most babies will probably only need three from birth to potty training. The sizes required will depend on the baby's build:
XS 6lb - 12lb (2.7kg - 5.5kg) Covers the same weight range as the small size but with a trimmer cut suitable for a smaller baby*.

Small 6lb - 12lb (2.7kg - 5.5kg)"
