I used them, tons of mums on here used them. THey are great for newborns, much better than wrapping their bums in things made from chemicals and plastic.
And you get so addictive and buy lots of different ones, also they are much better for mums and dads bank balance too compared to disposables.
People are just used to disposables now and assume they are better. They aren't.
I have to go to work now but I bet when I check tonight there are lots of people here agreeing with me!

I have used terry nappies (squares initaly and then shaped) on all of my newborns and i love 'em!
I agree nappy buying is very addictive!

I preferred squares for my newborns. You can get quite creative with your folds to cover the bits that get most wet. Check out Nappy-nippas to use instead of those huge safety pins, though. I quickly went onto Motherease shaped nappies once the dss were a bit older and we were getting out and about.

you can get smaller squares especially sized for newborns (40cm ones), or get bigger ones (50cm or 60cm) and just accept the initial bulkiness. bamboo ones tend to be less bulky, but more absorbant (although slower to dry)

Another alternative is to use muslin squares initially; given the amount of pooing they do in the early days and changes needed muslins will be plenty absorbant enough.

Get some bombproof velcro wraps, like Motherease Rikki or Tots flexiwrap and you'll be away.

I use shaped terries but keep some squares in reserve for when all the shaped nappies are still drying. They look very cute on

Terry squares are fab - the mothercare/boots ones are ok but I had smaller sized ones made by Little Ewe, you can get them from 'twinkle on the web' nappy website. A brand called Junior Joy sell something they call a luxury nappy but its rubbish compared to the Little Ewe ones. (We are now using our 4 year old little ewe flat nappies as hand towells they are such good quality!!)
but don't bother with the cheap horrible nappy pants from boots or mothercare. They don't even cover the nappy most of the time.
Yes muslin squares are great for newborn nappies, you can change them really often and they dry in no time, as do flat nappies, so you don't need as many as the expensive shaped nappies that can take a whole day and night to dry indoors.
I'm another who used Motherease wraps but I prefer the airflow because the popper fastening on those suited us better (specially when they get older and can pull velcro undone!)
If you put a wanted ad on classifieds I am sure someone will have some small good wraps you can buy from them 2nd hand.
(sorry have already got rid of all mine!)

i love my terry squares! i used them on DS1 and they're now getting a second use with DS2 - there's a great newborn fold that i liked (I also liked the poo catcher known as pleat fold on here)

Oh and btw - just tell people when they say that terry's are no good for newborns, that Terry's were used on pretty much all us mums on here and we are all fine!

RedOnHerHead · 29/09/2008 14:15

I had someone tell me that terry nappies will cause the baby to walk funny when they are older - that must mean there are an awful lot of people walking "funny" - some people have no idea!!!

Thank you everyone for your help. You have certainly boosted my confidence, I can't wait to start using Terry's I think I am turning into a nappie junkie .

PS. RedOnHerHead I love your photo
