Potty training - dd1 is 2.6 and I just don't know whether to potty train or not... she hasn't a clue if she's done a wee or poo. I'm happy to wait.. Thing is she's in pampers baby dry and people keep saying to try pull ups - now is that just quite literally pampers pull up nappies or is it the huggies feel and learn things or something different cos I don't see the difference in nappies why would pull ups help as opposed to 'normal' nappies.
Plus I have a secret fear that she is actually ready but I'm just chickening out cos its too much hassle. Oh my head hurts!!

Hi,
I don't know anything bout potty training as I haven't plucked up the courage to go for it yet, but ds is in pampers baby dry. I have used pull ups, but I find them a bit rubbish as ds is a heavy wetter and I end up changing his clothes at least 3 times a day! The huggies feel and learn, they can feel the sensation of being wet I think,(correct me if i'm wrong) plus they have a design on them which changes when they are wet, so that children can see a consequence I suppose when having done a wee. My ds is going to be potty trained late hes 2.5 now, hopefully his sister who's in reuseables will train earlier...
I'm sure someone will be along who knows about the pitfalls do's and don't's of potty training.

pull ups would help inasmuch as that you can pull 'em up and down in order to bung dd on the loo every now and again, ie, easier than keep putting on/taking off nappy, AND she may be interested in pulling on/off herself which would encourage the process.

2.6 is a good time to start. i didn't bother with a potty, when straight to the loo with a kids seat on it. find a week when you can be at home a lot if poss, tell dd what the plan is, give it a go for a few days. if she doesn't get the hang of it pretty quickly, she's not ready, wait another month or so then try again. ds1 was toilet trained (sounds like a dog...) in 2 days i think.

Thanks - Never knew learning to go to the loo is such a minefield!! I'm going to give it go during half term and see how she gets on...

When we toilet trained ds he was 2.5 and we found a week when we could stay at home alot. Took him out for lunch and let him choose his big boy pants explaining to him all the time what we were going to do - he was really excited and the next day he took his nappy off and that was it!! There have been a few problems on the way with regression after a big change in routine ie starting preschool and a playgroup but fingers crossed it's all ok!! He is 3.5 now and i would say it took about 3 days first of all. The regression started about 6 months ago and lasted for about 3 weeks. Started again 3 weeks ago and lasted for a couple of days.
We went for no potty too - just toilet with childs seat on.
