Pocket or two-part nappies?

After a few false starts, I've just got my 2 month old DS in cloth nappies. He's currently in size 1 bamboozles with fleece liners and I thought I should start researching options for when he's grown out of those.

I'm a bit of a novice though and would appreciate an advice on advantages/disadvantages of two-part nappies vs pocket nappies. I know a lot of it is down to personal preference but interested in other people's views.

Sorry if this is a topic that has been done to death previously! Once I can figure out what type of nappy might suit I can start researching individual brands...

i cant lol as my laptop with that email on is now deseased . Well actually its not deceased it is borderline terminal and currently undergoing a major op.

Ah, I knew there were some pocket nappy advocates out there! So which pocket nappies are good? I may get one or two to try out. DS is fairly sturdy and quite long. He absolutely hates being wet so fleece a must. I'm always a bit confused about all the booster chat around pocket nappies - it sounds a bit like rocket science?!?!?

Boosting is more of an issue to get us overnight or if out for a long time - bumgenius are the most popular and fool proof imho. Nah not rocket science at all.

bitofadramaqueen · 25/09/2008 16:22

I'm sure before baby brain set in it would have been much simpler!

Im a pocket addict, i take the time to stuff them all as they come off the line so that there is no fuss for 3-4 days. I love bumgenius v2, blueberry minkis, weenotions, if only my bank account did too I just love the ease of one parters and they dry superfast too.

bitofadramaqueen · 25/09/2008 17:32

Thanks 4andnotout -what kind of boosters do people normally use for general daytime and how long does the pocket nappy last between changes?

ooh, those blueberry minky's are really cute!

most pocket nappies though not all so check come with a microterry insert which suits just fine and lasts between 3 to 4½ hours if your lucky. If you want to go longer so over night you can boost with bamboo or hemp or whatever else you have to hand to chuck in there. I love minky nappies - greenkids minkytimes are lush as are the blueberry sidesnaps but fir somr reason i dont get on twith the blueberry onesize

bitofadramaqueen · 25/09/2008 18:25

Thanks nappyzone - I saw that the greenkids minkytimes are much cheaper than the blueberry ones; in your expert opinion what would you say the main differences were?

the outside is exactly the same (they use same material suppliers) - the insert of blueberries is like a fleece and inside of a minkytime is suedecloth, the arms of greenkids are chunky and neat were as the blueberry fasteneings are similar to a bg fastening but colour co-ordinated aplix. Greenkids are a btp or onesize - blueberry does a onesize and a side snap sized. I dont like curly aplix tabs and experienced this with my onesize blueberry so prefer either sized blueberry with side snaps though have symetrical ocd issues and for the onesize prefer minkytime as i like the big arms for neatness.

bitofadramaqueen · 25/09/2008 21:12

Thanks nappyzone! I thought the fabric looked identical in some pictures. Haven't come accross suedecloth in nappies before - does that provide a dry layer in the same way that fleece does? DS can't stand being wet (he even hates the bath )

Yes in the same way keeps dry but not fleece so good for babies that are fleece intolerant.

bitofadramaqueen · 26/09/2008 19:13

Useful to know. Many thanks. Found the other thread about 'going to the dark side' last night so now even more pocket nappies to choose from.

I used to wonder why people on MN had so many different types of nappy, I think I'm starting to realise why...
