Terry nappies

Any mums here use the larger sized terry squares ? My DD is still in daytime terries at 3.5 yrs and just lately I'm finding I need to resort to using 2 at a time for use outside, they work fine but can be bulky for daytime use so I did wonder if using one larger square maybe a better option.

What do others think ? I dont want a nappy thats down to her knees like it is when I use 2 standard ones !

Hi Sunfield, My DD is 4, I went for the cheaper option and I made my own larger terry squares, you could also try sewing two squares together. Let me know if you want any other help. I've been using terries for several years and probably know alot of tricks.

Also you could try bamboo terries, a lot more absorbant

Hi Spin, I have heard of bamboo terries, are they any good for an older child?

Bamboo is amazing stuff! really really absorbant.
They do take longer to dry than cotton terry but well worth it imo.

Bamboo terries are great, thinner and far more absorbent.

Is anyone use terries on an older child?

Sunfield · 22/09/2008 16:18

thanks for the suggestions I'll look into either bamboo squares or possibly making my own.

How old was yours when you stopped using them during the day Hannah ? I find getting 2 squares on a wriggly unco-operative 3.5 yr old a nightmare at times...lol

Hi Sunfield, shes still in them during the day at the moment. I'm heavily pregnant at the moment so have given up on potty training. Is your DD still in them during the day?

Sunfield · 22/09/2008 16:27

I still put a nappy on when we go out but try to leave one off as much as possible at home.

I can't imagine the fuss you must have getting one on a 4yr old !

It's not easy. Like you I try to leave one off at home, so far we've had a wees behind the sofa, in the plant pots, on the sofa and occasionally in the potty. What wraps/covers do you use?

I use larger size terry squares on my DS aged 3 who is still in day nappies. I put two nappies on him at night, because he is a very heavy wetter. Where do you manage to buy terry nappy material to make your own? I've looked everywhere and can't find any.

We use larger terries for our older two at night - DS1 will be 6 at the end of next month and DD1 is 4.5. They were out of nappies in the day at 27 and 30 months respectively so I have no experience of using larger terries in the day. We use a 75cm nappy at night padded with a 60cm one for DS1 and just the bigger one on its own for DD1. I have to coinfess that we use plastic pants too as I have never foudn a wrap which was really as efficient at waterproofing as the pants are. We got some of the nappies from KoziKare and some more from Twinkle when we needed them for DD1 as well. Until we got them we were struggling at night and having to change DS1 in the night if we wanted to avoid wet beds but he can now go through the night - although his nappies are almost falling down when he gets out of bed in the morning because they are so wet.

I use terries on my just 7 yr old at night. 30" squares are ideal. There is a company called home n dry which supplies them from the net. They are the cheapest i have found and very good quality. i also use a toddler terry as a soaker when necessary.
