Take a very well behaved and small dog around the block for a walk on her own? Doesn't involve crossing any roads, and takes about 5 minutes.

lol at cocolepew.

Yes here too.

lazyhen · 17/09/2008 19:03

Yes - I used to try and get other people to pay me to walk their dog when I was that age (never worked though).

Actually I remember my Mum saying that I could walk our dog when I reached the grand age of 6, but the dog was put down when I was 5 so I never got the chance. That was in the 80's though, that timeless and innocent era!

memoo · 17/09/2008 19:05

I'm glad you all said yes because I let DD take our dog out tonight, but then I worry that I'm doing the wrong thing

yes.

I took somone elses dog out for a walk when I was 9. It was an old beagle type dog. He got tired and sat down, refusing to move. I litterally had to drag it home on it's bum.[ouch]

Yanda · 17/09/2008 19:08

yes

AllieBongo · 17/09/2008 19:12

sorry, I'd say No, but my soon to be 9yr old is away with the fairies and I cannot imagine it changing in the next few weeks.

AllieBongo · 17/09/2008 19:13

sorry to pee on your fire, but everyone else says yes, so i'm probably being over protective

AbbeyA · 17/09/2008 19:15

Yes-amazingly protective not to.

harpsichordcarrier · 17/09/2008 19:16

naturlich

AllieBongo · 17/09/2008 19:17

that makes me amazingly protective then...

SlartyBartFast · 17/09/2008 19:18

no, have only jsut started to allow 11 year old, however dog has only just become well behaved. but have a nearly 9 year old and would not allow her

AllieBongo · 17/09/2008 19:19

and now i feel slightly better

SlartyBartFast · 17/09/2008 19:19

depends on the dog and the area, so used to not allowing dcs to walk dog it is a BIG novelty now dog is too old to pull, run off, fight etc., etc.,

OP did yoru dd pick up the poo?

allgonebellyup · 17/09/2008 19:21

no

SlartyBartFast · 17/09/2008 19:22

i walked my family dog when i was about 10 and it escaped and ran into someone's garden and stole their pet rabbit!!!

very upset all round

i am sure that wouldnt happen to op's dd though!!

AllieBongo · 17/09/2008 19:24

my ds is also terrified of dogs lol. there is more chance of him flying to the moon than stepping within 100m of a dog bless him

memoo · 17/09/2008 19:57

I did give DD a bag for the poo but it wasn't needed fortunately, I have visions of DD coming home covered it dog poo because she's dead clumsy!

branflake81 · 17/09/2008 20:03

I am surprised you even have to ask, I think by this age they should be up to more than that.

lovemybabes · 17/09/2008 20:08

yes - get her to take a mobile - that way you can call if you're worried!

AbbeyA · 17/09/2008 22:42

It is only a question of round the block with no roads to cross and takes 5 minutes according to the OP. I don't think it needs a mobile!
I wouldn't be at all keen on a 9yr old having a mobile.

seeker · 17/09/2008 22:46

Yes of COURSE!!!!!!!!

What sort of a world are we creating if we say no?

rachelp73 · 17/09/2008 22:46

Yes, but ONLY if it was a dog that was very vicious towards approaching shifty-looking paedo type strangers.
