Does anyone use the new Modern Baby Pop-ins full-time?

I have one which I've used a few times. Seems pretty good.

I need bigger nappies for DD and I'm torn between these and bumgenius. BG seem more convenient, but I like the fact that the MB ones are bamboo instead of synthetic fibres.

I'm wondering also how long each will last. I reckon the BG will last til potty training but the MB don't seem to have as much room.

Also the MB seem more of a faff to assemble especially as I'm using a fleece liner. I suppose we'd get used to it in the long term.

Any pop-in users out there? What do you think of them?

I only have one too, I like it but I would be wary of using it full time because I do find it slow to dry even though it comes apart. I have never had a leak with it, and I do not use the wraparound booster (that's inside another pocket nappy!)

I'm not sure if the size will last right up to potty training.

Ceolas · 12/09/2008 16:37

Oh yes it is slow to dry. Do you ever tumble it?

I'm using them full time. Yes, slow to dry; I have quite a lot though (20). Considering more for the Welsh winter.
With assembling them, I put them all together before storing (including putting in a liner - paper in my case) so they're ready to go, pampers-style!
I tried the nappy on a reluctant 3 year old ('I now do my wees in the toilet') and it fitted him.

How are you finding it with a fleece liner? Bulky? Does the fleece liner mean she's dry to the touch?

I only tumble dry mine to finish it off. I use fleece liner and don't think it adds any bulk. Pleased to hear it fitted a 3 yo.

Ceolas · 12/09/2008 18:03

The fleece liner is really thin so no difference really.

Thanks to your guinea pig ds

Gosh, 20 - that's a lot. How long have you been using them, essie?

Ah, now just to make the situation even more comic, the 3 year old wasn't mine! He's a skinny little chap, but my DS is also small.
I only have a little DS, and I've been using the nappies for 2 months.
I find they're v. good on bfed poo, no leaks; we have had the occasional wet back but only overnight (so c. 12 hours) and then without the wraparound booster mentioned by Isaidno.

20 - 10% discount for mumsnet members (see above) and it was the special value pack at £200 (with the discount). Compared with other nappies, quite good value. I find I'm washing every other day with 20, and so far they're drying ok. I have a tumble dryer but try not to use it.

Ceolas · 12/09/2008 18:18

Thanks essie

I wonder if they're really any less hassle in the long run than 2-parters. Suppose it's only one piece to put on a wriggly toddler though!

I was trialling these for M&B magazine and really liked them, but found with the little booster in (not the wraparound one) they seemed quite bulky and were difficult to fasten on my not v chunky 15 month old DD. Drying didn't seem too bad, but it's been summer. They might take an age in winter, but then again you can put them in front of radiators! Found that we could get up to three hours, sometimes four with just the main insert popped in though, so good and thirsty. I had a few leaks, but I think because the insert had rucked up rather than a design flaw with the nappy. Never tried them overnight though. I would be concerned about the fit on a tall or chubby toddler. I'm looking forward to trying them on DC3 when he puts in an appearance in November. I do love the colours of the wraps though (but not the yellow and orange inserts) and they are lovely and soft.

Maybe I'm just being precious about the synthetic BGs?

I'm not sure what to get - both Modern baby and BG look fantastic. My baby is due in 3 weeks and I live in Turkey so I may get a mixture of BG and Pop-in (I don't have a tumble dryer and like th idea of the quick drying BG for winter). As it gets very hot in summer I like the idea of the natural fibres next to his skin from modern baby - maybe the BG would be more of a winter nappy for us.

How do they both compare?

Does anyone know if anywhere offers a disount for BG for mumsnet members or otherwise? I saw the banner at the top for pop-ins which makes them very attractive.

BigBadMousey · 14/09/2008 15:09

Several of the main cloth nappy sellers offer discounts if you spend more then £50 or £100 so shop around. There are new V3 BG on ebay UK but they probably won't be much cheaper than thr ususl sellers in the end.

Nappyzone who is a MN regular sells BGs and often has good deals. I know she is happy to ship anywhere and gives good advice on Pocket Nappies.

Ceolas · 14/09/2008 16:18

You know, I'm just wondering what the point is of all those poppers? Why didn't they just make it a pocket nappy with bamboo inserts?

Essie3 · 14/09/2008 23:15

Gimmick? To justify the name? I've wondered the same thing TBH!

Essie3 · 15/09/2008 21:05

Ceolas were you after some of the old style MB nappies? I have loads + wraps to sell. Gingham!

Nappyzoneneedssleep · 15/09/2008 21:50

I had one i used - i liked it - nice and soft, stretchy, not a major faff with pop in business, not a stay dry liner which doesnt suit my boy. Canny though. Inserts took a while to dry.

I knw you mentioned bg or someoen did - Just a heads up that the rrp of bumgenius is rising to £14.75 for individual nappies ...... this will be accross all retailers. Mine will go up as soon as dh is available

Essie3 · 15/09/2008 22:33

Nappyzone is it possible to get stay dry liners to use with the nappies?

Also, can I ask why they didn't suit your DS? Only because I have a DS and I worry that his skin is damp. He doesn't get rashes or sores or anything. Would something like that have shown up by now if he was prone?

Ceolas · 15/09/2008 22:54

I just use a fleece liner on anything that doesn't have a fleece topping.

I was looking for an older MB set. Any colour really though I particularly like the light green and the pink. Would need size 2 nappy and medium wrap I think.

Ooh, good link Ceolas!
Alas, my lovely nappies are size 1. I do have the pale green, but I'm sure you don't like them enough to just look at them! My favourite was the raspberry. And I didn't like the bright green.

Nappyzoneneedssleep · 16/09/2008 12:05

Yes of course you could use a fleece liner and this would sort it but using liners is just another thing for me to forget . Unfortunatly if its not stay dry my little lad is a bit sensitive and does get a bit red hence i just use pockets with lovely stay dry liners built in... We use flexitots overnight and use a fleece liner and it works well just through the day with nursery it makes it easier for nursery if its just one piece...

Ceolas · 19/09/2008 20:22

So are you supposed to use all 3 inserts overnight? My goodness that is a big nappy!

OP posts:
Ceolas · 20/09/2008 08:15

But she was so dry this morning.

I put a fleece liner in and her skin was just the tiniest bit damp. When I took the nappy apart to put in the bucket there were parts of it still dry.

Impressed.

Another question if anyone can be botehred with this thread any more!

I'm using the nappy unpoppered just now. What happens with the insert if you use it on a smaller baby? It doesn't seem to be adjustable in any way like eg. the bumgenius one.

OP posts:
Essie3 · 23/09/2008 22:45

Ceolas, was she dry in the MB pop-in? How did you assemble it (just out of interest!)

I'm using the nappy poppered up on a small baby, and the soaker and the liner fold up with the rest of the nappy. More bulk around the middle, but good between the legs. (!)

Well I got a bit confused with the poppers but I put the first insert in then wrapped the soaker inside the big prefold style booster. This then poppered onto the first one.

It was HUGE! I can't imagine it being comfy for her but she didn't complain

And she was dry in the morning. Normally her nappy is very wet but there were parts of this still dry.
