When to say Mum instead of Mummy

At what age did your DC start calling you Mum and Dad instead of Mummy and Daddy. DS1 is 5 and I was thinking he maybe needs to start calling us Mum and Dad. Although he seems happy enough for now still using Mummy and Daddy. So just a poll really as when they start changing over

Ds1 (8) says Mummy and doesn't seem to have occurred to him to do otherwise.

DS2(6) says Mum, but he has started calling Grandma Granny, which is very funny as she looks far too young to be Grandma, never mind Granny.

THanks for all the replies, I didn't get a chance to come back to this thread until now. Wish we were posher so they could call us Mummy and Daddy forever

We are not posh but both my dds still call us mummy and daddy most of the time (they are 12 and 10)Tend to call me mum when they are cross or embarrassed (Oh MUU-UUM)

One girl dd1 knows teased her about it recently but she was firmly told to bog off and mind her own business!

ds1 started when ds2 was born, so he was 3y4m. He reverted after a while and now (nearly 6) I am mum or mummy pretty evenly.

ChasingSquirrels · 09/09/2008 22:15

ds2 (2y7m) has on the other hand only just started saying mummy in the last couple of weeks (late talker), until now it has just been mum. So going the other way.

Both of mine call me Mum, ds has called me mum for ages, he's a teen anyway and dd (5) has always called me mum, I think probably because the TEEN calls me mum.

I personally don't really like being called mummmy anyway, don't know why but I don't.

Mine - 3 to 15 - all call me mummy, though the 15 year old is starting to call me mum a bit now. And it's ALWAYS mum in front of their friends

I love "mummy" though
