Taking a baby on holiday!

What age is it ok to take a baby abroad?

About 18

As soon as they're allowed to fly (usually about 6 weeks or so)

Will it be hard with all the extra things that i will need to take? Esp if i bottle feed!

We took dd abroad for the first time at 8 weeks. Much easier than taking her abroad now at 12!

Don't know about bottle feeding - sorry - but you don't need any extra stuff. They have stuff abroad!

Yes travelling is one of the times when bfing really is great.. Instant milk in the trickiest of scenarios, no faffing and nothing to carry!

Regardless, when they are tiny you can get away with not lugging too much around tbh.

Transport for them (sling / buggy), some clothes, nappies, bedding, the essential muslins and you are done..

Bottle feeding does complicate it a bit I suppose. Milk / bottles / sterilising stuff.

HOWEVER when they were tiny was the point that I felt like doing as little as possible so its swings and roundabouts I suppose.

Take cartons of ready made milk, sterilising tablets and a container to put the bottles in.

The best tip of all is to get your baby used to being ported about and used to milk at room temperature. That way you can travel much more easily than you could if they have to sleep in a certain way or need their milk at a certain temperature.

We brought the full-size Avent steriliser with us - not a problem

Took DS to Portugal when he was 3 months. Took a plastic box with a line scored on it (for cold water sterilising), tablets and powdered milk. Used bottled water (look for low/no sodium). He lived in the room with the air-con on (40+ degrees), we lived on the balcony with a bottle of wine and some cheese and bread

I took ds4 away at 9 weeks old but my Mum came too, which seriously helped!

I am bfing and if you can do it, it is by far the easiest thing to do on the journey.

I did bring a breast pump, this steriliser and These disposable bottles so that we could occasionally go out without the baby.

Ds4 was far easier to deal with than 3 year old ds3!

It depends what you and your baby are like. Personally I would be, and indeed have been, a screaming lunatic when we took DD abroad as a baby. Wouldn't even consider doing it again. But that's not a usual opinion, I know, and other people are probably far more chilled out than I am!

took boy away at 3 m for 1 week and then at 4 months for 2 weeks to switzerland,needed very little stuff for him. Bought nappies on arrival so only packed 2 days worth . We went by car and ferry so took our own travel cot ( staying some places that didn;t have one ). Washed him in sinks and adult baths depending on availbility. Was breastfeeding so no probs with grub. Didn;t bother with baby moniter so stayed in ear shot.
took folding stroller that lay flat, took sling, used both.
Was pretty easy,did it again a year later with even less stuff- cycle camping in france. He was harder work this year at 2 in denmark as he now needs more routine and a reguar bedtime.

Took DS to Italy at almost 4 weeks (booked before we knew he was on the way) and again this summer at 1 year. Flew both times.

The 4-week trip was miles easier - bf, a spare nappy, a sling and he slept the whole time.

This year he rioted in the seat, didn't want to stay in my lap and ate his own weight in raisins (bribes are A Good Thing).

But both trips were fun. FWIW we stayed in apartments with my parents and sis, so loads of babysitting/attention. And some time off for us...
