'Lifting' your child for a night time wee - advice anyone?

HI

DS has been out of nappies during the day since feb and night for the last month after consistently dry nappies. However, the last 3 nights he has woken up sopping wet. He has a small drink at 5.30 ish and does a wee before bed at 6.30. This has usually seen him through until the morning although occaisionally he calls me to take him for a wee around 3am. These last 3 nights the need for a wee doesn't seem to have woken him in time for him to call me.

I was wondering about getting him up for the loo when I go to bed around 10pm. Does anyone else do this? Does it work? Any pros or cons? Needs to stop the wet sheets - the washing is getting too much!

Thanks!!

When dd started wetting (after being dry for a few months) I did lift her when we went to bed. I made sure she was awake enough to respond to me when I spoke to her. After a couple of months we stopped lifting her and she was dry again so lifting them can work.

yes it just shows all children are different and what works for one child could be completely the wrong approach for another child.

This is always one that seems to avoke a lot of different responses

We've lifted ours for the first year or so after they've been dry in the day (i.e. around 2)

Have had no problems with night-time wetting etc.

DH says "I'm just coming to bed after I've emptied the baby..."

There was a thread about this recently and a mnetter who said she worked in a bedwetting clinic said two points that stuck in my mind

  • there is no point stressing about it till they are 6 or 7 as some kids are just too young before then
  • at that age if you are lifting your child, you need to make sure they are awake enough to have a conversation, otherwise all you do is teach them to wee in their sleep

and rightly or wrongly, what I took from that was if your child is under 7 and you choose to lift them to the loo so they wee in the loo rather than the bed, that is your lookout!
