If so, could you give me the low-down on how much time you needed to study, how hard it was, anything really , so I can hear first hand what it was like?
I am scared about taking the plunge and biting off more than I can chew. I do have a degree, but it was unrelated, a long time ago, and I fear my analytical brain has degenearetd somewhat since the fog of children.
If anyone is selling the books I'd be interested in buying them too, so I can have a look before I sign up .
Note - I am interested in the negatives and the positives
Ta!

Just signed up too - and work in publishing too.

GreenEggsAndSpam · 05/09/2008 10:15

I signed up .

Being my ever cautious self, I took a good look at the course books Wessexgirl lent me , and feel fairly confident it will be fine. Interesting and challenging at times (I recall the stats from my first degree ), but a lot looks familiar from the little psychology I did in my first degree plus stuff I have read around since.

Hope we can be a support to each other - is this everyone?

Have any of you received your first set of books/materials yet - I don't mean the Intro pack, I mean the 'real' stuff. It says on the website that it's getting sent out mid-Sept, but this seems late to me. Maybe it's just me - I only signed up a week ago.

I did this last year (DSE212) and really enjoyed the course - good luck to all of you starting this year!

GreenEggsAndSpam · 12/09/2008 12:27

Hello all

I got the exploring psychology newsletter, application dvd, BPS and prep-pack through yesterday. I was told on the phone when I signed up that the main stuff was being sent out today, so should be with us soon.

However, I have had a look at the texts that Wessexgirl passed on to me, so I have some idea of what is coming .

Those of you that are signed up for the course, how many are looking at doing the Diploma conversion afterwards?

I like your typo in the 05/09 message, GreenEggs. Pubishing sounds interesting!

Course materials supposedly being sent out today....

Am really excited! (And scared)

akhems · 14/09/2008 19:57

Can I join in? I'm starting Exploring Psychology in October. Has anyone received their study pack yet?

I am nervous.

But very excited to find that there are some people on here doing it!

docket · 14/09/2008 20:05

Doh, ignore my study pack comment, I just read the thread...

wessexgirl · 14/09/2008 20:07

Oh, great, you're doing it, GreenEggs !

Those books are a good read, aren't they? Good luck to all who have signed up.

akhems · 14/09/2008 20:22

Nothings arrived at all regarding this course for me yet.. just a form to apply for assistance if i need it

Cocodrillo · 15/09/2008 15:13

It says on the course site that study materials were supposed to be dispatched on Friday, but there's no confirmation that this actually took place.

I want to know how horrendous the TMAs are going to be...

docket · 17/09/2008 15:02

So do I! Only 4 of the 6 are essays, I'm wondering what the others are going to be..

Cocodrillo · 17/09/2008 17:41

We have to do a couple of experiments

akhems · 20/09/2008 09:38

Still not received anything.. do you think I should give them a ring?

Cocodrillo · 20/09/2008 20:34

i've not received anything either, but you can now print off all the course materials from the course website.

muppetgirl · 20/09/2008 20:41

Hi! I started it back in 2007 but after 2 assignments I became pregnant with ds 2 (now 10 months) I have re-enrolled onto it and cannot wait to start again. I was a teacher but are now looking at the conversion course as I'd like to re train as an Ed Psych.

Are going to read the thread through now, am posting first so I can find you all again!

muppetgirl · 20/09/2008 20:49

oh some of you are doing it!!! Fab!!!!!

I haven't received anything but the registration and preparing to study pack but I've still got my old stuff so I'm just going over that. I've worked out a study schedule so dh and I both know when I am studying. I didn't do this before and was flying by the seat of my pants till I got pregnant! I am also studying Maths GCSE as I got a C the first time round on the intermediate paper where I didn't study statistics and found that part hard when it came to the OU course.

I am so excited to have found you lot!

Cocodrillo · 20/09/2008 20:58

I want to do Ed Psych too!

Are you planning to do an MA after the conversion, or straight into PhD?

muppetgirl · 20/09/2008 22:03

MA then Phd. I didn't know you could go straight into the Phd? Very scary to think about it but I worked in a difficult school and since then have known I want to work with kids that need help.

Am really looking forward to studying again and are so glad to have found that others are doing the same course!

muppetgirl · 22/09/2008 21:08

Hi! I've had some of my stuff delivered...

Anyone else started?

Cocodrillo · 22/09/2008 22:22

Yes, me too. I've been installing my SPSS software (due to technical paranoia rather than swottiness).

Re the MA, are you intending to do your MA with the OU?

muppetgirl · 23/09/2008 10:25

I think so as I don't have a uni near me although I would LOVE to go back to uni again. Also having the 2 children means for me fitting study around them is easier with the OU.
SPSS was very frightening for me!! I am hoping, due to the Maths tutoring, this time I will not panic so much.

When do you think you'll start studying?

Cocodrillo · 23/09/2008 14:15

I'm the same really, I need to work round the kids, so an MA with the OU would suit me best. But then all the Ed Psych PhD courses are full-time and attached to an institution, as far as I can tell, so I'm not sure how it's going to work out in practice (assuming I can get on a course - it's very competitive apparently). And I will be so old!

I've started my reading. I think I'm going to trying and get ahead a bit while I'm motivated.

akhems · 23/09/2008 15:55

stll not received anything and I can't log in on the website so it looks as tho I've not been processed yet bites nails nervously
