What did you do for your babies first birthday?

It will be here soon enough. I don't plan to do much because I don't have the space for anything grand but I thought about asking a couple of mums from the baby group to pop round and a couple of relatives.

Not sure what sort of food I should serve for the babies though. So far DS hasn't really had sugary foods - just things like yogurt etc - so what sort of cake thing should I do?

I am the first to have the first birthday in our group so can't copy anyone else even!

We went to Wagamama, ate noodles and came home and ate some cake (DH, DS and I). Much the same for his second birthday.

We got stuck in LA so on DD's first birthday we were on a plane then in a traffic jam on the M25 then stuck in Operation Stack on the M20 Didn't get to do any celebrating at all. (Luckily she didn't notice)

Just a buffet lunch for family, and my mum always getss a cake made for dd's. I do it this way because dh's mum family expects us to go to theirs and completey ignore my family.

I manly do adult food and just gave dd1 whatever she would eat. Although i expect dd2 will eat everything in sight as usual .

DS is going to be 1 soon as well and I'm really excited about it! (mainly because his first year has been so godawful that I'm desperate for it to be over with ) We're doing the same as we did with DD - a family party. The child wo'nt notice a thing, it's just a way for the parents to mark the occasion and have something to remember. Although now that we have 2 children, the baby's party is more for the elder one anyway. wrt food, I'd just do healthy baby-friendly food (breadsticks, fruit, cheese cubes, cucumber etc.) and then have a cake as well - the sort that you would like, not a special baby one. Then you can leave it up to the other parents to decide whether to give their babies some or not.

I'm quite excited about DS's cake DD's 1st b'day cake was of her lying in bed, fast asleep, cuddling her fave toy at the time ( she was a dream sleeper in the early days). DS is a nightmare sleeper and his cake is going to be the same theme, but instead I'm going to do me and DH on either side of him, with both of us wide awake and the clock on a bedside table saying 3am
