Would you leave your 3 year old and your 5 year old in the living room watching a dvd and go to bed for a few hours?

Because, things can happen in the middle of the night as well as in the daytime - I well remember dd waking me up at 3am, when she was only 3, saying she had had a gigantic nose bleed, had tried to mop it up but couldn't stop it - there was blood all over the bathroom, blood stained wipes everywhere - I felt terrible, but it was just one of those things - I couldn't have stayed awake all night just on the off chance!

I'm lucky. DS1 is quite a sensible 5yo and he is at the peak of telling tales, so he is like an alarm if DS2 steps out of line

No. Too young.

What on earth has the Mccanns got to do with this? - completely different ffs

Weegiemum · 21/08/2008 18:30

I have done it.

Ours get up in the morning, go downstairs and put on a dvd or the telly. We hear them, but we don't get up. This is just at the weekends - during the week I am up first.

In fact they are now able to get their own breakfast as well, which means we can stay in bed longer. they are 8, 6 and 4. Its usually quite messy when we get downstairs but is worth it!

I have done it on an afternoon as well if I am totally exhausted - but I'm not a very deep sleeper and I set my alarm for 45 mins to check.

Dh and I have also "gone for a wee lie down" and left them in front of the tv . That is the way to guarantee an interruption!

It depends on your kids, but as long as they cant get out and know where you are, I would say it was OK.

well I did it and felt much better or the sleep.

front door was locked, kitchen door firmly shut and they sat and watched the incredibles with strict instructions to dd5 to come wake me should dd3 be doing something silly. I think dd3 slet on sofa tbh

Glad you feel better for the sleep but I don't think it's a good idea. I think that napping on the sofa is ok but you shouldn't be leaving them unattended. Imagine you left them with someone else, even DH/ DP and they went upstairs for a kip- your average MNer would understandably go nuts (and probably start a thread). Why is it ok for you to do it?

JuniorH · 22/08/2008 14:27

We have a telly in our bedroom so I would maybe suggest they (although I only have one ) come and watch telly on my bed while I have a rest. Then everyone wins

tazmosis · 22/08/2008 15:18

No too young.

hana · 22/08/2008 15:26

yes I've done this. usually set timer and tell them to wake me up! Usually when dd3 is having her nap. I lock the front door and take the phone with me so they can't answer either. They can be trusted - does depend on that

Tutter · 22/08/2008 15:26

no

pigleto · 22/08/2008 15:42

Yes, and I do frequently. Our house is pretty child friendly and the children are quite well behaved.

Seuss · 22/08/2008 15:45

I just tried to grab 5 minutes on the sofa - got rudely awoken by dd shoving her pooey fingers in my face. Why can they be playing perfectly nicely but as soon as you shut your eyes they want a drink or poo or something?

I'd say no but I think I might just be jealous.
