does anyone have any experience of genetic throw backs?

I think you're a troll TBH, sorry.

If you had this thought, you would have asked your doctor for advice surely? Or in hospital?

knowaboutthis · 09/08/2008 21:43

she looks half black.

I know we seem sceptical, but people have given you their experiences too knowaboutthis.
we're not saying "oh you are wrong she won't be black" but as people have said, some babies do look like that, and can turn out to be white!

do you have any pics you could add to your profile? (am just curious really, not doubting your post)

This sounds like a wind-up.
I will happily eat my words if it isnt.

knowaboutthis · 09/08/2008 21:48

any one that wants to joke around or take the piss, do me favour and do it on another thread.
why the hell would this be a wind up.
who the hell is it going to wind me, other than me and dh.

so im going to ignore stupid comments

dh and i are both very pale, dd has much darker skin than both of us, she looks mediterrainian at the moment. When she was born she looked arabic, but had jaundice so skin is lighter now. I would love to find out about our genetic heritage.

EachPeachPearMum · 09/08/2008 21:50

Well- my dd was born dark-skinned, with black hair- I am white, DH is white, though he has southern mediterranean heritage.
She turned blonde after a few weeks, and now has english rose colouring.
There are probably plenty of UK people with some mixed heritage, most just don't know about it.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 09/08/2008 21:50

I did see a programme on TV years ago where there were people of a very afro-carribean appearance who had white parents and vice versa. The TV company did family histor research for each person and found that some generations back there was always someone from a different racial background. So it can happen.

A friend of mine who is a doctor once told me about she did a c-section for a black couple and the baby was very caucasion at birth. The dad said that his great-grandmother was caucasion.

Quattrocento · 09/08/2008 21:50

A chum of mine from years ago is mixed race, married to someone white. His three children are totally different colours - one looks entirely white, one is the same colour as he is and one significantly darker. These things happen. Don't worry. Funny things, genes.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 09/08/2008 21:50

You can add a photo to your profile and take it down shortly afterwards, no links, nothing would be saved. I'm sure no-one you know could trace you in the 10 or 15 mins you'd keep the pic up!

Because otherwise, sorry but this post does sound rather trollish!

saggyhairyarse · 09/08/2008 21:51

I'm not saying she will look different, just that our DS1 did look mixed race as a baby and he doesn't now. I think by the time has was 6 weeks his colouring got lighter and definitely by 6 months he looked caucasion.

CarGirl · 09/08/2008 21:52

I would research your family tree so if/when you get rude questions from friends and strangers alike you can say where her heritage is from.

Roseperfume · 09/08/2008 21:52

Sorry but get a life. If you're not a troll, then you are doing a very good impression of one imo

TheQueenIsDead · 09/08/2008 21:52

I'm still not sure what you mean when you say she 'looks half black'.
My mixed race boys looked white when they were born, or olive-skinned at the most.

saggyhairyarse · 09/08/2008 21:52

Have you spoken to both sets of parents/Grandparents?

MsDemeanor · 09/08/2008 21:52

It's normal for newborns to have black hair. Both of mine did and they are now blonde. THe hair falls out.
I don't believe a newborn has 'afro hair'. ALl newborns have squashy little noses.
I feel there is something very odd about the OP and subsequent posts.
Newborn mixed race babies usually have very pale skins too.

knowaboutthis · 09/08/2008 21:54

couldn't give a xxxx if you think its trollish.

clear off somewhere else.

thanks for all the good advice everyone, guess we will have to see how it all goes, and start tracing our family history.
that will be a good starting point i guess

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 09/08/2008 21:55

there are some family history threads on here if you need advice on how to start looking back further.

personally I can't see any reason not to believe what you've put.
it's unusual yes, but could happen, so will give you the benefit of the doubt.

I am sure there are mixed race babies that do have "afro" hair when born, and I am sure plenty look very dark, as the OP suggests her daughter does.

knowaboutthis · 09/08/2008 21:55

our parents only know upto there parents, although dad said his older sister know alot more about the family history than he does, so i will start there.

OP posts:
Hecate · 09/08/2008 21:56

My kids are mixed race and they were born with shiny straight black hair (lots of it!) it didn't get curly till they were a few months old. I believe this is quite common, although I am sure some babies have curly hair straight away.

All babies have squashed up noses (it's so they can breathe while on the breast, I read somewhere)

So your baby has dark skin you know it's the child of you and your dh, you know you've not slept with anyone else, I presume your dh trusts you enough to not have doubts that would require any dna tests to be done. Obv there are a variety of genes in one or both of you. It's no big deal. Just enjoy your baby.

saggyhairyarse · 09/08/2008 21:56

FWIW, my other babies have not looked like this at all, only my first and I did lose a mixed race baby before I met and married my white husband so it was all very

Hecate · 09/08/2008 21:57

oh, ds1 was almost white at birth but ds2 was really really dark. He got lighter and ds1 got darker and kind of met in the middle.

Basically, anything goes.
