Next Door Over-Reacting

Moshi · 06/08/2008 14:45

My DS had a littl argument with the girl next door and during the conversation he's supposed to have said "I'm going to cut you up, eat you and then poo you all over the table". The next door dad heard and came knocking on the door saying DS was disgusting and I ought to have better control. I think he's over-reacting, it was a daft kids argument.
Who's right?

sounds like something i heard on the movie 'drop dead fred' years ago?..has he watched that lately?

theinsider · 06/08/2008 14:47

Seriously? Your ds sounds very unpleasant.

nell12 · 06/08/2008 14:49

I am on the side of the little girl's dad... not a nice thing to be told, especially the "cut you up" part.

yes I think that is where he got it from pinkchick, its his favourite film lol

what did she say to him to make him say that? does he normally say things like that?

i think a lot of it depends on HOW it was said, if it was said in a "im going to get you and gobble you all up" jokey way then he is over-reacting. although TBH i would probably have a quiet word and say its not really a nice thing to say.

Moshi · 06/08/2008 14:50

yes I can see why he was annoyed about the cutting part but I think that sounds worse than it was meant. I think he wouldve meant it like cutting up your food, not chainsaw massacre style

When I read this I laughed.
ok it's not v. nice, but yes your neighbour over reacted. if someone said that to one of my kids I'd tell them to ignore and avoid said child.

theinsider that's not a nice thing to say, very antagonistic. From your reaction I would presume that your parenting experience is quite limited.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 06/08/2008 14:51

How old is he? Sounds like normal 5 year old boy territory to me.

lilymolly · 06/08/2008 14:51

not nice thing to say at all

TattooedGrrrl · 06/08/2008 14:51

Depends how old he is. If he's 15, it's pretty bad

Silly kids thing (assuming he's primary age or less)

Twiglett · 06/08/2008 14:52

I think it's a daft kids talk and shouldn't be commented upon personally .. depends on age of child of course (am assuming under 6)

but then it depends how it was said .. I would be far more concerned by a child threatening rather than just playing / chatting .. if it's the latter then no biggie, if the former then I'd probably want to make parents aware and I'd probably have told the child off

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 06/08/2008 14:53

not a nice thing to say and im sure that you have already explained to him that its not nice to tell people you will cut them up but i agree with jimjams its a normal 5 y o boything

Moshi · 06/08/2008 14:55

He's 7.

She said to him "I'm going to wait until your asleep and then paint all over your face!" and so he said "yeah? well I'm going to cut you up, eat you and then poo you all over the table!" etc etc...

It wasn't said in a whisper in ear "guess what I'm going to do to you...." kind of way!

Drop Dead Fred is a 15. Perhaps that's what your neighbour meant when he said you should have more control

TattooedGrrrl · 06/08/2008 14:57

i think it's funny and normal, and your neighbour was rude in how he raised his concerns.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 06/08/2008 14:57

yeah over-reaction from next door then.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 06/08/2008 14:58

is drop dead fred a 15? I would never have guessed that (saw it in NZ with young cousins so it must have been a lower cert there).

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 06/08/2008 14:58

i thought it was a pg or 12 at the very most? we watched it when we were kids and it hasnt done me any harm.

Uriel · 06/08/2008 14:59

Did you ask how the little girl felt? Maybe she's upset and is the sort to have nightmares tonight?

theinsider · 06/08/2008 14:59

Presume away kittywise. I don't get involved in scraps.

I'm off to enjoy the sunshine.

JodieG1 · 06/08/2008 14:59

I'm sure it's a 15.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 06/08/2008 15:00

ah just googled it uk 15 aus/nz pg.

Moshi · 06/08/2008 15:01

Apparantly she just said "urgh thats gross! im telling" and ran off I think its the poo bit that got them more than the cutting

OP posts:
kittywise · 06/08/2008 15:09

theinsider I'm not interested in fighting. Your post was unpleasant that's all.
There's a world of difference in saying someone has done something unpleasant and that they are unpleasant

PinkChick · 06/08/2008 15:11

id explain it to parent and say its from a kids film, although he may have taken it to be violent, it was nothing more than a child copying somthing, same as my dd(yes dd) pretends shes a power ranger..i dont like them, but aparently its the in thing!
