Help! My toddler (2 year old boy) needs friends. We live in Malaga, Spain. There is NOTHING to do here with kids, as all the Spanish seems to have extended families which take care of all that.

I am pretty desperate to find other mothers in the area or toddler groups or anything. I don't mind travelling up and down the coast a bit.

Can anyone help?

Ellie

Lilolme - we've been here 5 years now! Time has flown by! I have to admit I still get homesick at times though! By the way, my mum is French so I learnt French from a very early age too and it is true it is the easiest way to learn - I don't remember it ever being an effort!

Lucy5 - Thanks for the info about Estepona - not sure if we will move - I am a bit hesitant about a big move now that we are pretty much settled here in Malaga - will have to see what how things work out!

Well costamum you seem to be coping brilliantly and really enjoying your new way of life. The benefits I can see outweigh the occassional homesickness.
I think when we do take the plunge in a few months time, I will need to keep reminding myself of all the stories on here and realise that it is normal to miss things.

As missing them is being fond of your memories but building an exciting future can add to those in time.

Cos you dont want to look back and have any regrets. Just need to know that you have grabbed every opportunity and made the best of it. Lived your life I suppose.

Thanks Guys

Hope you don't mind me opening this one again. DH and I are discussing moving to Spain as we are finding the UK too expensive to get ahead in.
Dh's stepmum lives in Estepona and we would probably try to find somewhere to live nearby.
I am worried about things to do with the kids, and neither of us can speak Spanish.
DH has been offered work over there, but I am worried that I will feel isolated. Does anyone work over there, and do you need Spanish to do so?

sorry have only just seen this, not been on here for a while. Estepona is lovely, it is not hard to get work here depending what you do. I got work quickly as I am a teacher but I t is almost impossible for me to teach in the Spanish system. It took my husband who speaks very little Spanish 18 months to get a good job, he now works in Gibraltar where both languages are spoken. There are enough northern european expats out here for you to find work, lots of sales and catering. Anyway I have to go will post later with info about kids.

Hi,

I'm moving to Spain near Malaga in a couple of weeks time with my husband and three young daughters 4, 2 and 1.

I am very excited/scared re our lifestyle change but would really like to hear from other mums who live in/near the area as I need and more importantly my daughters need to make some new friends !!!!!!

I am also keen to hear any advise that anyone may have for me to make out transition into spanish life as easy as possible.

Thanks to all
