my sister got wacked with mums slipper,she remembers it, i remember it but strangely mum doesnt!!

My mum let me catch a bus to go swimming when I was 9 on my own. I couldnt swim, she hadnt actually checked whether I could or not.
She says things are different now
And critises the lifeguards for not paying enough attention when dds are in the pool at swimming lessons.

TV wasnt sensored in our house when we were kids.I remember being terrified at watching a nationwide episode about the dangers of railway lines. Children being carried out of a tunnel all bloodied. I still recall it. I was far too young to see that. parents would deny that one too im sure.

I actully had a talk with my mum over some things. She admits to the slipper but theres a few other things I have said and she hasn't 'admitted' to them but I know she remembers.

But we have a WONDERFUL relationship now

My mum has a very skewed memory of my step father's behaviour - he was a violent, abusive bully and we used to sit there and dread him coming home after the pub on a Friday night because he would normally start a ruck. I remember her being hit, me being whacked, things being thrown and broken (including the tv being put through the front window ). Now she says things like "oh, he was an argumentative drunk, but I never let him lay a finger on either of us"..

She geniuinely believes it. Its very odd

Yes and spending numerous sunday lunchtimes at grandads smokey social club, but parents remember it as 'only once or twice dear' cough cough

Do you remember those horrid childrens rooms that pubs used to have. We got left in those a fair few times with all the chav kids.

I remember watching that with my sister - I was about 10 and she was about 8. I remember a sort of sex scene and blood everywhere.

my mum has "forgotten" my anorexia which started when i was 6, got worse when i was 9 and by the time i was 14 i was hospitalised weighing 3st. she also doesnt remember my stepdad beating me to the point of ss being called, throwing a knife at us (cut dband he still has the scar) and me moving out at 14. but remembers every family holiday in minute detail

Letting me and my sister watch Poltergeist. We were 6 and 10. Now she says, no you were much older. Both my sister and I agree we weren't. We had just moved house and my sister kept saying she saw a man at the top of the stairs with a black coat and a big black hat. She was also to scared to go the toliet cos of it.

Leaving me and my brother alone in bed whilst they went to the pub for hours. Saying really hurtful things. Not giving a stuff about me or making any effort to spend time with me for about 6 years and putting her relationships with two stepdads before me and my brother. And openly admitting it.

Luckily I am the forgiving sort

Riven, do you care for you mum as well as your DD with disability? How do you find time (you have 3 other DC, I think?) Am I mad to think you cycle a lot and are a Muslim, too? (Sorry for hijack).

My mother had screaming fits at us, and used to try on loads of emotional blackmail (to her dying day). I lose my temper with DC sometimes, but must remind myself I'm nowhere near being in the same league as her foul moods.

Ohhh The Omen - my parents completely deny this one - but 4 of us rememeber it verly clearly..

Aged six - at a party in the countryside, parents all outside drink, kids watching The Omen on a tiny TV set in black and white in the middle of an otherwise pitch black barn...

eventually as a result of our screams (we were all too scared to turn it off) some one runs in pulls the plug so we are left in pitch blackness!

Also, the next day my bf's brother (aged 10) is allowed to drive an estate car around a really bumpy field with all the little kids sitting on the back with the boot open - the aim of the game was to bump the car hard enough to knock the little kids out of the back. Now my mum has a go if I don't put the straps on my 15 month old straight away in the high chair

having my mouth washed out with soap!

The Omen aged 10 here too, mum swears I was older but I know I wasn't because I had my 11th birthday at our next house.
