Anyone got Gina ford contented baby book to hand?

Morning.

I do not wish to start a gina ford debate about routine. Each to their own. I personally loosly used it with my dd and it worked great for me and her, and we just adjusted it to our needs.
My ds however due to varying reasons is more of a attachment parenting child, and that suits us aswell as it fits in with how we are now.

However i have misplaced my book and i would be interested in what the routine is for a 8/9 and 9/10 month old.

so if anyone has one to hand and could just loosly give me an idea that would be great.
just want the outlines..
e.g
7am wake. milk
8am breakfast
9am sleep for blah blah......

Many thanks.

mmj 12.32 sit and feel loneley and depressed while you eat a sandwich on your own

it seems like madness to me, seems more like dog training.

gateau, lol at someone taking the blinds on holiday!
i met a mum on holiday who used to pour cold water over the baby to wake it up coldwater over the babys feet and hands

RubySlippers · 23/07/2008 09:46

cold water

Gateau · 23/07/2008 09:47

Cold water??! IF you saw that on a tv programme, you would hate that woman!!

i cant imagine looking back at my childs early years thinking "oh im so glad i woke her at exactly the same time every day and fed her by the clock and woke her from her beautiful sleep with cold water. ah those were lovely days"

id rather "oh i loved snuggling under the covers with my sleepy baby and having long lies in bed and feeding her when she was hungry and when she fell asleep in my arms it was lovely"

Gateau · 23/07/2008 09:50

Why not rename the book "Boot camp for baby." ???

nailpolish · 23/07/2008 09:52

gina is not a mother herself
thats what i find hard to understand - how does she know what its like to refuse a hungry baby - you OWN baby?!

lovelysongbird · 23/07/2008 09:52

i know!
the baby was about 6months.

Morloth · 23/07/2008 09:53

I know someone who would strip her baby off in a freezing cold house to wake him up. I had top stop visiting cause I was always wrapping him up when I was having a cuddle, he was almost blue with the cold. Got told off a lot.

ANY routine which requires such mad behaviour is insane IMO. The baby in question does follow the GF routine perfectly but it all seemed so wrong to me. I babysat once, was given minute by minute instructions and felt like a child abuser following them - never again.

WideWebWitch · 23/07/2008 09:54

lol at MMJ but careful you lot.
Bet Gina and Foot Nastey still read mumsnet.

I used Gina Ford on dd1 when she was about 4 months old (was bored on Maternity leave and needed a PROJECT )

it worked fine but tbh she was already in a routine already

didn't leave to cry or any of that nonsense but used the feeding routine (from the Gina Ford weaning book) and she had a 3 hour nap at lunch

I agree, this WAS a pain in the arse as shhe would only sleep in her cot

dd2 was a law unto herself (still is), slept anywhere as she had to fit in with dd1

HOWEVER: dd1 has always been a fab sleeper, dd2 is a pain in the arse, one was in a routine, one wasnt. Coincidence? Mehbe.

I LIKE routine, some people do.

and never leave them to cry it out, that was one part of the book that upset me, iirc one couple left their baby for 90 mins??? (I may be wrong, we are talking nearly 6 years ago I read this)

To op, just pick bits out of the book that you see fit, if it says you feed at 2pm and it is more like 3pm, don't sweat it

girrafey · 23/07/2008 11:37

wow never expected such a response. sorry i disapeared was sleeping in the double bed with my ds as that is how he sleeps. ( also nice for me at nearly 6 months pg)

i honestly used it loosly with dd, just a guide how often to nap etc.

the reason i asked as i seem to have a dream ds who likes a lot more sleep than i recall dd did at this age. down fall being he gets grumpy being awake for more than 2 hours. Problem is he is quite ill and doesnt eat. So i wondered how much was extremed by this.

thank you for the posters that took the time to post the routine for me, and to the poster that was worried i may take it personally. i have been on mumsnet a while now and know that gina ford is like marmite. you love it or hate it.

i do not feel personally attacked. just wish i had not posted it and disapeared!

i agree, if you take the book to the letter and follow everything she says then it does seem a bit boot camp ish. but like many other books out there, tracy hobbs (sp) etc you pick and choose what you want if you do feel you need abit of guidance.

Tried GF on Ds1 - he was having none of it. Book ended up in the bin.

Glad I didn't follow GF's advice because she recommends never cuddling a baby to sleep as it will encourage bad habits. When I look back at the baby years cuddling my sleeping baby is one of my happiest memories.

I would pick and choose from GF and leave out the mad bits.

nkf · 23/07/2008 11:50

It's partly the way the book is written that makes it easy to poke fun at. Very 50s and bossy.

ruty · 23/07/2008 12:02

sorry but lol mmj. So true. My ds was a terrible sleeper, didn't follow a routine. My dd is a wonderful sleeper, and we don't follow a routine. My conclusion? Er, they're all different..

lovelysongbird · 23/07/2008 12:03

so if thats what your supposed to do with a 6-12month old, what are you supposed to do with a NB?

TeeBee · 23/07/2008 12:25

Sorry, I burnt mine (literally) when I realised I was taking advice from someone who hasn't any children of her own!

Tapster · 23/07/2008 14:02

I can send you mine, plus baby whisperer plus her guide to weaning. Going to charity shop soon, expecting no.2 but won't be refering to any of these books.
