babies in hot tubs???

we're going on holiday to cornwall this week and the log cabin we're staying in has its own hot tub on its decking area (!!!!!!!). Is it ok to put our 7m old DD in it? I'm not sure about it but can't think of a reason against it.

I have no baby but I do have a hot-tub. When the jets are on it's pretty powerful, plus there would be chlorine in it. I'd say not if the jets are on or if it's very warm.

we looked at holidays earlier this year and found something like you have and im pretty sure i read that you shouldnt put under 5's in them and that any children that go in them should have a restricted time )even less than adults) because they over heat quicker than we do. I definetly wouldnt put a baby in one IMO

I think no. Two separate friends of mine had sex in hot tubs that they had in their hotel rooms and they both got thrush. Too many chems as califrau says.

Yes but Cali, I bet yours is for your use only. These were ones in hotels so they might put something scary in the water between guests rather than emptying them out so a log cabin might be the same. But these were in Malta so they might put something especially dodgy in the water there. Shame - I've always fancied a shag in one

My five year old went to play at a friends and I agreed to let him play in their hot tub as their kids go in it all the time. The next day he came out in the most awful rash which looked like Chicken pox. He wasn't itchy or complaining at all but it hung around for about a week. Never again.

Do not put a 7 month baby in a hottub they are far too hot, lots of chemicals and/or bacteria floating around. Could be dangerous to a baby so best to avoid all together.

Eurgh, really really not. They are so hot they breed bacteria like crazy, so one leaky nappy and you could all end up with e coli.

No way would I put a baby in one.
I think they are not the same as baths because they are constantly heated - whereas a bath can start off hot but then cools down, so is much safer.

I put my DS in the Jauzzi bath and he loves standing in front of the jets he's 11mo but a hottub maybe wait and see, temperature, strength etc.

Also when DS first went in a chlorinated pool (c 5 mo) his skin looked a bit rashy, red not raised, it cleared overnight after a coat of olive oil.

Absolutely not! Babies are incredibly sensitive to temperature (which is why it's so important not to take them in the sun in their first six months and never to let them burn) and don't have the body-cooling systems that adults' bodies do. It only takes a 0.5 degree rise in brain temperature to kill them. Unless the temperature of the hot tub can be dialled down to normal baby-bathing temperature - which of course is prime bug-breeding temperature - it should absolutely be a no-no until at least three years old.

Also, I used to work in a hotel that had a hot tub and I can tell you that not only was the water not changed between guests, it wasn't changed all winter. That's standard. The chemicals they put in are supposed to kill all the nasties but of course sometimes the temperature drops and then they breed like fun.

Yuk, not changed all winter? The chemicals must have been so strong that they caused a rotten rash.............

Yes, would do, have done, as long as I could control the temp (obv. has to be kept down a bit, & obviously not let go of her). Jets are fun!
I grew up with hot tubs so other concerns expressed on thread don't bother me.

We're on holiday at the moment. Hot tub on our deck. Put DD (8 mos) in yesterday. She loved it! Wasn't too hot.
