quite regularly.

She has openly said "please tell me if ds is badly behaved" but tbh her son is really cheeky to me when I pick him up from school .I do tell him off when needed but I really haven't the heart to say anything to my friend.

Her ds can be quite a moody wee thing which we both agree on and he definitely isn't cheeky to me when his Mum is around.
She's always commenting on ds' good behaviour which makes it more awkward.

he'll be 6 next month

I don't think he's tired or hungry

runs off playing and doesn't ask for food instantly

my ds sometimes comes out grumpy and tired from school. he will run with his friends even when tired, i think he's not physically tired so much as emotionally (not sure if right word so hope you understand) from concentrating in class.
so he could be tired just not in the need to sleep now sense iyswim
this doesnt excuse his behaviour, ds is still told not to be rude and if he throws his bags at my feet they stay there til he picks them up again, this hasnt happened for a long while now he has learnt this much at least.
can tell how he's feeling when he comes out now if he doesnt seem happy i say hello and then leave him til he's ready to speak to me otherwise it can set the pattern for the rest of the evening.
