I am reluctant to have DP's parents look after 4mo DD. MIL doesnt really have use of hands (arthritis) and FIL has proudly told how he has never changed a nappy. Both have problems bending down to floor level and have even more problems getting up!

Am I being mean?

well, someone has to change the nappy if you leave him there more than a couple of hours......

and the second problem, don't leave her on the floor

No you're being practical, nice of them to offer to help, they might manage with her while she is tiny and when she is much bigger (like 4yrs) but the toddler age is hard work even for a young person so I think it wouldn't be a long term solution tbh. Maybe you could use a childminder (I'm one so I'm biased) then they can step in when your cm is on holiday or sick then it won't be too much for them.

you both need to be 100% happy with who looks after your dd. yanbu to not want them to, but that might rule out your parents as far as dh is concerned

No your not being mean, you shouldn't leave your child with anyone you're not totally happy with. Let them 'look after' the baby when you're around. Maybe they will prove themselves up to the job and you'll feel happier if not stick to your guns.

i am paranoid that they wont physically be able to cater for her needs if we're not around.

No - dd is 14 months and I've still not left her with my mum for similar reasons

I keep meaning to TSM but no idea how to get the pics on here to show you mn doesnt recognise my password so can't have a profile etc I decided not to go for any in the end, none of them were quite right, fabulous shop though and NJM made me feel like a princess but alas.....the search continues!

Maybe you could ask them to look after her in your house for a few hours so you can catch up on some 'work' or clean or have a long bath etc and then you'll be there on hand if they cant cope.
If they are ok then you can go out next time and not worry!
