i am absolutely revolted. i know, i know, i know, v common these days etc but IT'S GROSS.

anyway, your help please. i left poor dd with the neighbours and raced round to Boots for a Nitty-Gritty comb, but the pharmacist said that cos i hadn't seen any live ones i couldn't use any treatment yet.

it's little brown casings that were in her hair, not zillions of them, but still...
have conditioned and combed (bribed dd with late-night lollipop that i didn't have any money for so must go and reimburse nice sweet shop lady tomorrow) and more or less rinsed and now she's in bed.

i seem to have EGGS in my hair, bleeeeeeeeeeee, as they are smaller and whiter (although christ knows it could just be skin, it's hard to tell).

so apart from listening to me moan...

how often do i have to do the combing thing? for me and dd, yes, and presumably dh if he ever deigns to return from the football.

i'd prefer to use natural stuff, at least until i've seen a living beastie when i will happily unleash the chemical arsenal.

any recommendations? sympathy, even? [molto molto squicked emoticon]

Aitch, for our outbreak recently I read (dunno how credible this is though) that the eggs take 7 days or so to hatch, then another 3 for the larval lice to become mature enough to breed (yukkkkkkkk). So if you do it every week, you should keep on top of it. Since our pestilent outbreak, I've been combing every (weekly) hairwash and no new creepy crawlies yet...

gagarin · 13/07/2008 21:56

only use chemicals at the beginning of a long holiday - as you can't help getting them on a regular basis in a pre-school or school environment.

But if you blitz everyone on the last day of term at least the summer is usually nit free - until October!

Not much help if it's a daycare nursery though.

Welcome to my world. My dd has had them for a year . I comb with the metal comb, tea tree shampoo and spray with the conditioner religiously-spent an hr tonight by getting her to count up to 100 in 10's and 2's!

Tomorrow, I'm off to the chemist to get something else and then demonstrate outside her school regarding my dd's re-infection by other kids.

Limara · 13/07/2008 22:15

Oh, and I use cheap conditioner which I slap on and leave for ages.

What's the point if someone else doesn't check their kids hair?

ExterminAitch · 13/07/2008 23:00

well yes, that is what i'm afraid of. this dad was very bullish about how his kid wouldn't be getting them...

that was day 2 of combing and nothing, so i think i'll just do it a couple of times a week and then once a week after a while. boak, though.

ExterminAitch · 13/07/2008 23:01

and i'll have a good look at the deterrent options, better to do that i feel, than breed a superlouse bent on world domination.

WilfSell · 13/07/2008 23:02

oh. don't hate the carriers, everyone catches it from someone else. You just gotta comb and comb and comb I reckon...

ExterminAitch · 13/07/2008 23:07

i can't be arsed with this man, tbh. can you tell? 'ma kid willnae gettem'. oh, right, great. [hmm[

eidsvold · 13/07/2008 23:46

I do not know why but dd1 has never had them. Bizarrely I got them just before Easter and none of the girls got them. That was despite dd2 laying on my asleep and me laying me head on them the day I found them in my hair.

Not sure with dd1 if it is that her hair is in tight plaits every day at school ( she hates her hair anywhere in her face) and that in order to brush it properly etc that I use leave in conditioner every morning on her hair.
Or that nits just don't like her!!

When I have done dd1's hair I just spray over with the wild child spray. ALso spray her hat every week or so.

ExterminAitch · 13/07/2008 23:48

i'm deffo going to have a look for that spray. unfortunately no amount of tugging will get dd's hair into tight plaits. i've been trying to get her to go along with a ponytail or bunches and she hates it, pulls it out straightaway.

eidsvold · 14/07/2008 00:18

my dd2 is like that - can't stand having her hair up. She asks and asks and once it is done it lasts about 5 minutes.

ExterminAitch · 14/07/2008 00:35

yup, 5 mins spent preening in front of the mirror going 'ooooh, it's so lovely' and then OUT.

eidsvold · 14/07/2008 02:07

add to that about 10 minutes moaning that she wants her hair like dd1!!
